Title: 1975-1976 TBS memories from Massachusetts
Description: The Bible Speaks moves to Lenox, MA
daved - June 13, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
I though I'd list a few little known TBS events that occured in Massachusetts, in 1975-1976.
Friday night Bible Studies were held at a mansion in Southborough, MA
[Was the mansion in Southborough, MA some sort of a temporary headquarters,
while Pastor Carl Stevens was still in the planning stage,
to build a Bible College,
in some yet to be known location in Massachusetts?]
Later:
Friday night Bible Studies were held at Charlotte Dunning School, in Framingham, MA.
During this period,
Pastor Stevens mentioned that it was difficult to have a true Bible Believing Church, in Massachusetts.
After the move to Lenox, [probably in 1976]
Pastor Carl Stevens would drive [or be driven] from Lenox, MA to Framingham, MA to hold his Bible Studies,
and then after the service was over,
he would drive [or be driven] to South Berwick, Maine to hold weekend services there.
He appeared to be very happy, after starting a Bible College in Lenox, MA,
Pastor Carl Stevens spoke at a Presbyterian [??] Church in Qiuncy, MA
Pastor Carl Stevens spoke at John Hancock Hall, in Boston, MA
Pastor Carl Stevens spoke at the Tremont Temple Baptist Church, in Boston, MA

You're right Daved. I was there at all those places.
Is this just you documenting every move he made? After one of those services I became aware of some behind the scenes naughty stuff he was up to. Scott Robinson was with him. Maybe as his lookout?

You mean Scott Robinson knew all about Carl??????

Then where's his letter of repsentence...or something?
david munson - June 13, 2008 03:13 PM (GMT)
He was in Westborough on Tuesday nights and Charlotte Dunning in Framingham on Friday nights and Sunday morning followed by Scarborough Maine in the afternoon and then South Berwick at night.
I began attending in the spring of 74 and went to almost all the services.
The mansion in Westborough was at the end of, now get this, Lovers lane off of route 9, on a street I cannot remember the name of.
It had twenty six rooms.
The sign (Lovers Lane) was only seen once by me.
All the kids in the neighborhood must have had one on their bedroom wall.

Somehow I felt this fits into the subject
All the late night bargains have been struck
Between the satin beaus and their belles
Prehistoric garbage trucks
Have the city to themselves
Echoes roars dinosaurs
They're all doing the monster mash
And most of the taxis and most of the whores
Are only taking calls for cash
I don't know how it happened
It all took place so quick
But all I can do is hand it to you
And your latest trick
Well now, my door was standing open
Security was laid back and lax
But it was only my heart that got broken
You must have had a pass key made out of wax
You played robbery with insolence
And I played the blues in twelve bars down on Lover's Lane
And you never did have the intelligence to use
The twelve keys hanging off of my chain
I don't know how it happened ...
Now it's past last call for alcohol
Past recall has been here and gone
The landlord, he finally paid us all
The satin jazzmen have put away their horns
And we're standing outside of this wonderland
Looking so bereaved and so bereft
Like a Bowery bum when he finally understands
The bottle's empty and there's nothing left
I don't know how it happened ...

I have up to date maps of the Westborough / Southborough town line.
The entire Route 9/Route 495 interchange is just barely in Westborough,
just west of the town line with Southborough.
There is no question that the entire length of "Lovers Lane"
[which intersects with Flagg Rd.]
is totally in Southborough,
and is at least 3000 Feet from the Southborough/Westborough line.

How was Pastor Carl Stevens able to use the mansion for his Bible Studies?
Had the owner recently died, and no one had purchased the vacated property?

Steve Quinlan "planted" the "branch ministry" in Wilmington MA.

The ministry purchased it but sold it to, I believe, the Bania (sp) or some group like that when Lenox was bought.
I do not know the specifics of the purchase though I know that it was rented for a time.
Several "body members" lived in it full time until it was sold.
Melody Stevens and Shawn Redgate where married out in back of the mansion.
I have driven by it many times on my way to fish the Quinapoxcet and Stillwater rivers.
For such a large place it really has a homey feel.
If I remember correctly there are four fire places in it.

I remember driving in Pastor Steven's car to a bible study in Southborough when I was just a teenager. He used to take different people in his car when he drove to preach somewhere. His first wife Barbara was actually driving, and I remember him asking me questions about my hometown. One of his future secretaries, Nancy Bird, was also in the car, although I don't believe she was yet a secretary. I remember she constantly smiled and giggled, and wore an ankle length dress.
However, I do not believe Melody and Shaun got married at that Southborough mansion. I specifically remember their wedding at Spring Hill in Maine.

You're right, Jaded2, Shaun and Melody were married at Spring Hill. IMHO, Barbra numer one was one of the most spititual people I've ever known.
david munson - June 16, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
I must be thinking of some one else then but I can't for the life of me remember exactly who.
I thought it was Shaun and melody.
Any one know who it actually was?
Now I'll be thinking about this till I figure it out.

tom and lisa schaller among others?
Guest - June 16, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)
Tom and Lisa got married on the Lenox campus...guess again...
Jaded2 - June 16, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
was it one of the other Stevens kids, Paul or Steve maybe?
Guest - June 16, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
I keep thinking it was one of the Capello boys John and Joanie? who was married on the Southboro property... Gosh that is a long ago memory.
I do remember Melody and Sean's wedding tho it was at Spring Hill. She came riding down in a horse and carriage that the D'entrements hired for the wedding. During the ring exchange they also gave carl a ring to signify their fidelity to him.
Everyone was all gushy and in tears over that gesture. <groan>
david munson - June 16, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
Might have been Paul but I am not completely certain.
I'd need another "witness" so to speak.

Do you remember when two dozen English showed up in Lenox and spent six months with us? All this "Pasta," Pasta....I thought they were talking about spagetti. It was rough in those beginning days--horrible food and accommodations, but they acted like they arrived in Heaven. Remember Steve Houston the Irish piano player? I hear he's quite famous now.
