GG is desperately attempting to get a family member to attend their memorial service. No takers, are we surprised?
My deepest sympathy goes to the children and grandchildren of CHS. How difficult his passing must be for them. We love you Pam, Bruce, Steve, Paul, Melody and Donna.
He's gone. - June 4, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)

Wow, I outlived him. I am happy to be alive. Seems like some chains have been left behind. I hope some chains come off the loyal followers of "the ministry." Let's pray they are set free.
Guest - June 4, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)
Does anyone have any details? Will there be a memorial here in Baltimore?
Guest - June 4, 2008 12:35 AM (GMT)
Hopefully Hodeoun will do his Grace Hour thing tomorrow and pass on any information announced on the program.

Is this actually true???? I am no longer in contact with anyone from there...is this confirmed by anyone?

Definitely confirmed by family.

No arrangements are being made by the family with GGWO. The hope is that no staff from GGWO attend services in Maine. My prayer is that they respect the families wishes and allow them to grieve together.
Here is the final legacy. The family of the man GGWO leaders followed are asked to remain absent....

That speaks volumes to me.

Carl didn't want anyone from GG to be present at his funeral. They got the legacy but the legacy didn't want them. It's all very fitting.
His family only ever wanted him and they got him in the end. they deserved better but in the end it's all about family, isn't it? The rest is crap. I do not grieve for him and I rejoice I have my family in spite of him. I pray for all the families this man destroyed. I pray for his family. I pray for the daughter-in-law's who endured pain because of him(Miala, Barbara and Marcie.) I pray for the grandchildren who were denied a grandfather at their most special occasions like graduations and weddings. they needed a grandfather not a legacy. What a sick culture we were a part of. No one knows this better than his family.

My sympathy to the family.
As for GGWO, I am mostly interested and curious to see how events unfold there over the coming days and weeks. What will the leaders say about it? Will they show genuine love and emotion? Will they spin it into a final passing of the mantle to Schaller? How will it affect convention? Will more people attend or less? Time will tell.

I hope that there will be a memorial service in Baltimore that the family will attend so that some of us can convey our condolences to them...

I agree if for no other reason.

what the heck does that mean

Carl was like a father to some of us. he was supposed to have been the spiritual father. But we found when we took him at his word and told him when he was off, he abandoned us to the wolves from Finland and Africa and MA.
For many of us, Carl died about three or four years ago. We looked at him, but he could not look back at us. He was dead inside. He let it happen.
For many, the death of Carl will have a great impact on their lives--more than they realize. I pray that it will make them finally turn to Christ and have a real relationship with Him and Him alone.
i can't imagine the spin that the spin doctors at ggwo have been planning for this. I can't imagine what they will make the convention. They will now have three weeks to plan it. Without the constraint of Carl, some true colors might come out. Maybe more souls will be set free from this cult. We pray, in Jesus' name, Amen.

May God have mercy on his soul.

Wasn't Christ supposed to be back before this happened?
Jaded2 - June 4, 2008 03:54 AM (GMT)
One of my favorite stories in the bible is of Joseph....because it shows that no matter how evil people's intentions are, God always turns it for good for His own. Despite the deceit in CHS life, God brought good out of it in different ways. People came to Christ in spite of it all and some great friendships survived, and we are even all here chatting together because of it

He was big part of my life. He hated the idea that he will die....

Send a card. Let them grieve in private if that's what they want. Haven't there been enough demands placed on them already?
guest2 - June 4, 2008 10:39 AM (GMT)
You are right rww and you changed my opinion with that brief statement. The fact is that if we personally know any of the family, there are other ways to show support. We can call, visit, offer to help out or send a card. If, however, the family has a local memorial service, I will likely be there.

Let's be real. A lot of us lived for just a glance from Pastah Carl Stevens. Can you imagine what it is like for those people who still saw him as a man of God? Many were probably hoping to get one more photo op at the convention. Well, ya might as well go back to Las Vegas--they'll have a cardboard cutout of him there and you can still get your pic. Seriously, as painful as it will be for these people, I hope it wakes them up and put their affections on Christ once and for all. But half of them if not more are probably worshipping the butcher's son.
boss_martian - June 4, 2008 12:03 PM (GMT)
Over? Hardly, I think. Now Carl can be a full-fledged "martyr", immortalized in painting and sculpture to be trotted out in order to further legitimize the cult. Now GGWO doesn't have to worry about any more embarassing comments from Pastah. He's more useful to the machine dead than alive. Schaller and Co. can spin Carl any old way they want. I suspect more than one GGWO member will have a "vision" featuring Carl. I also bet there will be more than a couple of sermons where the "presence" of Carl is felt.
Good riddance, but it ain't over by a long shot.
Carl, you earned whatever "reward" you're getting just now. I hope the air conditioning works.
Anyone that doubts the "usefulness" of Carl, just watch the feeding frenzy over his funeral and who does and doesn't attend.
Guest - June 4, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
Boss, I only half agree with you. I think if Carl died a few years ago, you could get all that stuff. But he's been out of commission for so long that people who worship him realize now that he was only human. God was faithful. God had him just fade away slowly with him dying so many times that it was like calling wolf. If you look at the pictures of him last convention, he looked like he was mostly dead already, so people probably realized then that it could be the last occasion. So I don't think he can get the martyr status that he could have got a few years ago. Most people's memories are short. I could be wrong. Like you said, we'll see.
I do agree with you that now the ggwo leaders can spin Carl any way they want to. That indeed will be a strange sideshow at the convention.
sidethorn - June 4, 2008 01:13 PM (GMT)
They're going to make an even bigger idol out of Carl now that he's dead. They'll elevate him as one of the greatest apostles that ever lived who had more knowledge than just about anyone ever had. I bet they'll be putting up pictures and paintings of him. I really wouldn't be that surprised if they put in a statue of Carl at the Plaza. They'll paint Carl in the best possible light they can. Those embarrassing moments Carl had will be swept under the rug to be quietly forgotten while Carl's better days will be focused on again and again. They'll remember Carl in whatever way they want to. They'll idolize him as some special apostle or saint whose teachings are never to be questioned and was infallible.
Of course they'll idolize Schaller as the new Carl too with the mantle or anointing of Carl. Now they'll elevate Schaller even more as a superapostle with the wisdom and anointing of Carl. The pastor worship goes on with Schaller standing at the pulpit. Time will tell how far all this will go.

I hope you're right. It's hard for me to see it that way because of all the taped sermons on Grace Hour, the booklets (I still have one given to me years ago.), and the worship that still takes place, but I sincerely hope you're right.
Either way, pop some popcorn. This is going to be interesting.................

Some of them were satisfied to bask in the reflected glow of Carl's glory and reap the financial benefits of his position. Few left until they absolutely had to and would have been very happy to continue indefinitely with the status quo, living off the sheep.

Carl Stevens was a man with feet of clay who was placed on a pedastal. His children are the ones who suffered the most...no matter how complicit some of their actions might seem as adults, they were still children in need of a father.
The fact that they were pastors and had perks in the ministry means nothing to me...because all of that was a product of Carl's manipulative forces. If you are held prisoner in a four star hotel, you are still not free.
Personally, I think, the further away the family stays from ggwo the better...for their own sake.
I do not think he will become even bigger in life or become a martyr...although some isolated individuals might try to represent him in that way for their own advantage in the ministry.
His children have a lot to process here...more than grief...a lifetime. I hope they can put it in perspective and move on with their lives. Let something new begin.
