Title: I'll never forget the time that Carl said...
Description: The most outrageous thing Carl said, did
left egypt in 1983 - March 28, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
I'll never forget the Wed. night in Scarborough, ME. when Carl wispered in my ear, "Robin, you need to learn how to suffer well." then he had the audicity to say, "I just wish that I could take you in my arms and kiss you all over your face to make you feel better"
I was riding with Charlene, Bruce Browns' sister and I asked her to stop at the corner market because I deffinately needed a beer.
I told my husband, he did not believe me. Told me to repent for of lying about Carl. Circa 1975.
david munson - March 28, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
I'm glad he never said that to me.
I remember the countless times he said that rock music was of the devil.
I never bought into that because I play guitar ,sing and write songs and I know better than to even think that a joyful noise can't include rock music.
:ph43r:
sidethorn - March 28, 2008 11:38 AM (GMT)
I remember when Carl spent a good part of 1997 ranting and ranting about rock music. He claimed anything that sounded like rock music including Christian rock was evil. He stated that the musical beats in rock music was similar to musical beats ancient pagans used when they wanted to conjure up evil spirits. Therefore Carl condemned all forms of rock music as evil. This crazy complete condemnation of rock music actually is not unique to Carl. I've heard it amongst other hard core Christian fundamentalists before I ever came to GGWO. This teaching is just legalistic horse crap. When I heard this stuff preached in GGWO, I kept on enjoying good ol' rock and roll just as much as ever.
I'm glad Carl didn't say that stuff to me either Egypt. I'd probably be telling him a whole bunch of things he would not want to hear!!!
_Brett_ - March 28, 2008 01:12 PM (GMT)
I am embarrassed to admit that I believed what he taught about music for many years.

My main reson for starting this thread is for personal catharsis. I will be realating some things that I have never told another person. Other things I've mentioned to people who were never a part of TBS/GG machine. I've kept secret's for far too long. I trust this site, I trust you dear Saint's that post here...well, most of you. With that being said, please bear with me as I complete my mission that is now possible.
Reality is stranger than fiction as I conside my TBS/GG experience. My experiences were not all bad by any means, in fact, I had far more positive times than negitive ones.
I left egupt in 1983, and I have no regrets.

Brett, don't feel embarrassed. I sold away my entire collection under the assumption that the only instrument in heaven would be the steel guitar (and that Dr. Lewis would be wowing us with solo performances). What an eternity that would be, huh?

Some might consider that that would be the "other" Place.

"I’m getting a word of knowledge right now. Everyone bow your heads. There are fourteen men here who are having problems with secret masturbation. Please raise your hand if you are one of these men."
-Carl H. Stevens, Jr.
david munson - March 31, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
I remember him saying those things.
I wonder if he thought they where doing it wrong and wanted to show them the proper method.
left egypt in 1983 - March 31, 2008 06:51 PM (GMT)
Oh, yes how funny, carl had sexual hang-up's big time. I wonder if he continues to think with his gonads. Probably not, his drugs of choice probably have rendered him impotent.
Thank you Lord that I left egypt in 1983
He always was a salacious pervert.
sidethorn - March 31, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
And this guy wanted parents to entrust their kids to the GGWO youth "ministry"???? This guy wanted whole families to REGULARLY come to GGWO church services and functions???? Carl really knew how to set a fine example, didn't he??? Yeah, right!!!!

Good morning,or should I say afternoon at this point, left egypt in 1983.?
How are you?
I know you right?
I used to do the sound setup in Framingham and record the messages.
Dude - March 31, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
I'll never forget the time Carl said:
The Beatles brought rock music to America from Africa.
He could manage the Red Sox.
"Look at that guy's hairpiece."
I was like a son to him.
"Don't you think she's sexy? She has a sexy personality." ( Regarding our secretary who he transferred to his office 2 weeks later.)
85% of the church is carnal.
"Is your wife getting off?"
He was a boxer.
He. 13:17 meant he would help GOD judge the congregation and hand out rewards.
"If people don't submit to my direct authority they'll never be blessed."
There were no lies in the court case.
He could have made it in music.
"People who don't tithe aren't spiritually covered."
Enemies of the ministry had broken into his car after accidentally hitting the START button on his key fob.
Falwell had armed security.
We didn't work enough hours.
Called his stock broker while I was in the car with him.
And his favorite, always the first thing out of his mouth when confronted by someone with statements he had made about them at raps or meetings:
"I NEVER SAID THAT."

Dude is a genius. Thank God for the Coen's. Mr. Lebowski, where do you go to church? Tell me and I'll be there. I think it would be my kind of place.
I remember Mr. Stevens saying those very things. Also some other things that are unprintable.

Hello Mr. Munson, this will be the only time i address you as MR. don't like formality. I'm doing excellent.
I live in Orlando, FL. so it's afternoon here.
My husband, Bruce RIP, and I were introduced to TBS in Framingham in the summer of 1972. Perhaps our paths crossed at some point in time. So. Berwick, Framingham, Lenox, Brockton, New York??? Dunno, but God blesses you that I know.
I love this, this is my granddaughter Mia's nightly blessing, "Dear heavenly Father help our food, amen", she's 2 1/2 and I love her prayers. It's true that we can learn so much from the little ones.
Take care. Thank you all who have so graceously welcomed me here on Discuss.
left egypt in 1983, Praise the Lord!
Perfidious - March 31, 2008 10:51 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Dude. You jogged my memory of another great Carl quote...
"What is wrong with you men?!? I make my wife come seven times before I do even once!"
(Mind you, he said this well after his 70th year on this earth so it may be true)
Egypt- very true about Carl. Makes you wonder about him always harping on homosexuality?
Dude - March 31, 2008 11:14 PM (GMT)
Probably she was faking it...

Did you and Bruce ever spend time in Maine? Say, the Auburn area.
Jaded2 - March 31, 2008 11:47 PM (GMT)
left egypt,
I know you and guessed who you were from your very first post when you mentioned your first name. I did not know that Bruce had died....if it is not too personal, how long ago was that and what happened. You guys always seemed to be "outside the box" to me. It is good to hear you are doing well
Guest300 - April 1, 2008 12:59 AM (GMT)
Dude and others,
All these quotes make you feel good about yourself or give you something to laugh at. Having a big party at the expense of one you despise. You like making fun of certain people. Is all this chatter done to glorify God or make a mockery of a man. Come on Dude make fun of me! I am a nobody. You can't get any merits for making fun of me. I'm not a big enough piece of cheese. Are you some kind of spiritual giant that can say what you want and think that it's cool. If your the man take me on whether you have patience for me or not. Maybe you are a coward and have no real backbone. John Collins and others might think your cool but so what. You practice the presence of God Dude? Are these the kind of things that you bring before the presence of God? You little worm!

Reign it in, Guest300. You've been allowed a lot of latitude recently.
Guest300 - April 1, 2008 01:25 AM (GMT)
This whole site is allowed lots of latitude. When they take cheap shots at certain people it's okay, but if I shoot back at them I am given a warning. They say these things behind the person's back and I confront them to their 'posting' face and I am the one who has to reign it in. Just because this thread is titled, they can say what they want and no one can challenge them? Is my response insubordinate and enough to get me banned? Is that how posters look at things? If they do and you want to change the policy, then do it. However, trying to tell me to pull in the reigns when so many others have done far more than anything I have posted. My personal approach to Dude and others is nothing less than what any decent human being would do when any member of his family is being slandered. The site is DiscussGGWO not slander or malign. If those that post do slander or malign and it is allowed then I have every right to oppose that in the same manner it was presented. If I am not in line with the reason this site was created, then maybe you should change the name to a realistic domain name that fits the modus operandi.

Hi unregestered guest,
That would be a resounding YES, we were in Auburn for a period of time. So I might as well jump out of the bag and say that I'm Robin Straus. I was Robin Post until Bruce passed when I took my maidan name back since both Christine and young Bruce are adults.
I left egept in 1983 and I'm free

If carl stevens were standing before me I would most certainly take him to task on things I have heard him say. I would speak my mind and not have one problem with it.
Secondly: Those who are recovering from years of bondage to GG need a good outlet to remember what caused them pain, grief, and even laughter. It is not up to you to determine what is right or wrong about what anyone says.
Third: You can stamp your feet all you want, you will not deter these precious believers, these victims, sojourners, brothers and sisters in Chirst from helping each other through these things.
Snap out of it.

Hi Jaded 2, how are you friend?
Bruce died the day after the Patriots won the Super Bowl 3 years ago. Bruce 3rd and I were snowed in in Newport, R.I. and were forced to watch the game together. Yay! I had flown in from CA., and our son from Vermont.
Although Bruce and I were seperated since 1983, we were still married and I wanted to say good bye and tell him that I loved him. His family had decided to pull the plug and I told them that I wouldn't try and exercise any sort of legal blocks, and I didn't. So, 2 days after I went home to CA., Bruces surgeon called and wanted to do another operation, Bruces sister didn't want him to suffer any more and wanted to discontinue life support. I co-signed and she went to R.I., and stayed w/Bruce during his last hours.
As far as being outside the box, you are right to a certain extent. When Bruce was "good" he was 100% company man, GG. When Bruce was bad, all hell Broke loose and he went back to his addiction's. Yes, I was outside of the box and considered rebellous. I've always been analytical and pragmatic in my approach to life so I constantly scrutinized TBS, all the while believing the B.S. until the truth could no longer be denied.
I hope my thoughts make sense to you.
If you know me , then I must know you. So, who are you. If you arn't comfortable telling me here, feel free to email me at lacolorada1948@yahoo.com . You know, I left egypt in 1983 :D and my life is better every day.

300,
Again you are wrong.
Malign: Stresses malicious intent.
Slander: Untruthful oral statement about a person that harms the person's reputation.
Ummmm, I'm not malicious, I'm not lying and carl has done brought this outting all on himself. His reputation is HIS REPUTATION. Do you get it?
Hey, I'm glad that I left egypt in 1983!
arguendo - April 1, 2008 03:18 AM (GMT)
How is quoting someone slandering them?
Jaded2 - April 1, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
Hi Robin,
You probably do know me, but I have never revealed my identity in posting on these boards, even by email. I guess I am a bit cowardly that way, or maybe I am wise, depending on how you look at it.
I am sorry for your loss, Bruce died young. What was the actual illness he had?
I just remember you both as being rather unconventional. Your personality was definitely not candy coated or phony at all, which you can take as a compliment.
Your posts here are interesting and I enjoy them
left egypt in 1983 - April 1, 2008 04:25 AM (GMT)
Hi Jaded 2,
No problem with anonimity. Don't think that you're cowardly, I read factnet for 3 years and never posted...that was wise of me.
Yes Bruce was young when he died 54 yrs. old. I'm looking at Bruces death certificate and 4 things are listed 1)respiratory failure, 2.) aspiration pneumonia, 3)seizures, 4)alcohol abuse. Well there it is, what a loss of potential. He never was well after TBS. He slid deeper and deeper into addictions, psychosis, and no pun intended, Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome.
Thank you, I will take your post as a compliment. I simply believed that I am a sinner saved by grace and that took the element of pretentiousness out of me. I'm glad that you enjoy my posts, I'm having a fun posting. I do laugh quite a bit while writing and reading on this site.
Am I reading too much into your moniker Jaded2, or are you O.K.?
Feel free to ask any questions, I'm not hiding any more.
I left egypt in 1983 and it's so nice to be out of the desert B)

You make fun of yourself by defending such unacceptable things as the behaviour of Carl and company the erroneous doctrine taught and those who would commit child abuse.
We're to sad for you to make fun of you.
You don't have a clue.
Speaking the truth is not hate though hiding (called by GG as "covering") that which causes damage to another is because it shows a lack of concern for the body of Christ.
Remember,
God is no respecter of persons and neither should we be.
Get it yet?
I didn't think so.

Simply put, because you don't argue the issues or respond to attempts at discourse, you resort to personal attack.
Guest300 - April 1, 2008 11:27 AM (GMT)
david munson,
I will never forget all the times that you and others have mocked, ridiculed and repeatedly have touted your salacious attacks over and over again. You were not sad nor have you done anything in meekness. You are looking for something you and others will never find, a type of repentance and display that God won't give your lustful hearts. You attack the word of God as if it means nothing. You forget all that God has done and you have no grace or mercy in your heart. Maybe God has sent leaness into your soul as He did with those in the wilderness.
