Zack and One walked into the graveyard. The rusted gate creaked in the wind. A bolt of lightning slashed across the sky, throwing eerie shadows from the dead trees and tombstones.
Zack pulled out the crumpled note and read it again.
| QUOTE |
Tamer,
I've seen you in action, and I must say, I'm rather impressed. I could use the skills of someone like you on a little project I'm up to. There's a reward in it for a job well-done. Meet me in the Graveyard if you're interested.
A friend. |
Zack felt a chill in his spine, odd considering it was a warm and balmy night. He looked around as lightning struck again. The tamer heard the air sizzle and crackle.
Then, in the harsh light, he saw a cloaked figure moving slowly towards him. The cloak ruffled slightly in the wind.
"Heads up," whispered Zack to his partner. "This might be the note's author... or an unfriendly local."
"Maybe both," said One, his tail swishing slowly back and forth.
"A fine evening, isn't it, gentlemen," said the cloaked figure. His voice was smooth and calm.
"Who are you?" asked Zack, watching the figure carefully.
"A friend," said the stranger.
"So I take it this note is from you?" said Zack, holding up the crumpled paper.
One watched the stranger warily, his eyes also scanning the horizon. Ever sense he'd set foot in the graveyard, it had seemed like something had been lurking around. Always just out of sight, waiting, watching.
"Yes," said the man. Far from being a monstrous-sounding voice, it sounded like a large, upstanding man. Perhaps a trace of british accent.
"So, what's this about?" asked Zack.
"Exactly what the note says," said the man.
"Go on."
The figure turned and waved behind him with his arm. Zack spotted a low, stone building in the distance.
"That lab was home to an individual trying to amass power for himself, through alchemy and necromancy." explained the figure. "There was an... accident some years ago, and since then the lab has been totally abandoned."
Zack nodded, considering.
"So you want something inside," said Zack "And you want me to get it?"
"No," said the figure. "I just wanted you, to come here."
Zack's face was a puzzled mask.
"I was the one who lorded over that mansion." said the stranger. "And now, look what it's done to me." The cloak fell off, revealing the twisted form of an Ogremon. His hair was long, gray, and matted. The monster's skin was green, its muscled frame very broad. Even by the standards of Ogremon, he was particularly ugly. The years had not been kind to him.
Zack took a step back, suprised.
"I lost my scientific vision, focused only on gaining wealth, and power." He roared towards the sky in anger.
"Now," said the derranged Digimon. "The only thing that can satisfy my hunger... that can bring me some small degree of comfort." He looked up, his mad eyes locking with Zack's face. "Is blood!"
"A bloodsucking Ogremon?" gasped Zack, horrified.
"So it would seem," said the Ogremon "The taste of blood. I love it. When I smelled your blood for the first time, I knew I had to taste it. That's why I brought you here, little human."
The Ogremon laughed, its spiked shoulders shifting up and down. "I do not truly draw sustenance from it. Or so it would seem, as my body continues to decay, yet I live on. No, I kill for the sake of killing. To see death. To hope that one day, the death I see is my own!"
The Ogremon blurred into motion, his massive bone club raising into the air as he prepared to strike. Zack tripped over himself as he tried to back up.
The Ogremon raised its club and prepared to bring it crashing down on Zack's head. The blow would surely crush the tamer's skull like a piece of rotten fruit. But the human didn't give him the shot. Zack rolled to the side and the club cracked down on empty rock.
A series of small but brilliant explosions sparked at the Ogremon's side, ressembling vivid flowers. The Ogremon grunted, pushing the pain aside. It turned to face One, the source of the small explosives.
"I won't let you hurt him!" snarled One, taking aim with his gun and shooting the Ogremon.
The Ogremon shielded its face with broad, muscled arms. The thick skin, wads of muscle, and more spikes than any digimon could hope to need coming together made Ogremon a very challenging opponent.
"Blood!" roared the Ogremon. He swung his club through the air. Zack rolled onto his feet and away from the blow.
The cudgel impacted with a loud THUNK on the ground.
"M16 Assassin!" yelled One, firing another burst from his assault rifle. The bullets impacted the Ogremon in the face. It gave an angry exhalation and lumbered towards the commandramon.
One fired two more quick bursts. They were ineffective. The Ogremon flexed its beefy left hand into a fist. "Supreme King Fist!" he bellowed. A projectile of dark energy launched forth. By sheer luck the Ogremon's vicious attack missed Zack's partner by a few inches.
One saw that his bullets were ineffective against the thick hide of the Ogremon. He'd need a new strategy, and fast.
Zack paused, his mind instantly surveying the situation. Previously he'd been able to use Tsunami strike to even the odds... but there was no water nearby for One to draw on. It would be a waste.
One lowered his rifle and leapt up onto the ogremon's back. He gouged his claws into the mutant's back, and slashed repeatedly at the Ogremon's head.
The Ogremon peeled One off his back and sent him flying across the grass. Commandramon rolled and skidded to a stop. He stood back up as the Ogremon closed in on him.
"Pummel Whack!" bellowed the Ogremon, brandishing his club and swinging it at One's head.
Zack's partner managed to move far enough the blow only struck his shoulder. Before he could recover the Ogremon launched a series of swift jabs at the commandramon.
One staggered away, trying to regain his balance with his injuries.
The Ogremon charged, putting all his weight forward into a single right-handed punch.
One ducked the attack, causing the Ogremon to careen forward before splitting a small Oak tree in two. One jammed his claws into Ogremon's leg, hoping to incapcitate the towering digimon. The Ogremon swung its fist down.
One rolled to the side. The Ogremon had been hurt, but it was still mobile. Hoping he a burst at close range might have an effect, One fired his rifle again.
The Ogremon winced as bullets lashed across its upper left torso and shoulder. Still no real impact.
Ogremon lunged forward in the blink of an eye. He seized One in the blink of an eye, hauling the small cybernetic digimon up off its feet.
"No!" yelled Zack, watching as the Ogremon strangled the life out of his partner.
"Blood," rasped the Ogremon, squeezing harder and harder. "I will break you with my bare hands."
One tried to fight the larger digimon off, but he wasn't nearly strong enough.
"Power up!" yelled Zack, swiping a card through his reader. "Crystal fire!" Flames errupted from every inch of Commandramon's skin. The Ogremon's face clouded; he could feel the burning pain in his hands. One clawed and kicked at the Ogremon's arms, head, and torso.
Still, the Ogremon didn't relent. Zack couldn't believe it. His partner was about to die and there wasn't a damn thing he could do to stop the reckless, insane Ogremon.
"No," he said, softly. "NO! I won't let him die!"
"Power up!" Zack shouted, scanning his Vacuum card. The Ogremon roared in anger as its strength was stripped away.
The Ogremon howled as its power ebbed and the celestial fire wrapped around One's body seared his skin.
It released its hold on One. Zack was about to order One to counter-attack when something told Zack it was in his best interest to retreat rather than attack.
"M-16 Assassin!" One fired a point-blank barrage of bullets into the face of the distraught Ogremon. The bullets seemed to only deepen its rage and despair.
"C'mon, we gotta get out of here!" yelled Zack, making sure his partner was following him.
"We can take him!" insisted One, injured and struggling to stand.
"No, no, no, no." Zack said quickly "Now's not the time. You heal fast, but not fast enough. We gotta go. Now. There will always be more battles to fight later."
The two beat a hasty retreat, running like lightning back to the trailmon platform. They reached the platform. The Ogremon was no where in sight.
A bone-rattling roar split the air. "TAMER!!!!" roared the voice, echoing across the valley with terrible force. "KNOW THIS! I WILL NOT GIVE UP! YOUR BLOOD WILL BE MINE BEFORE I DIE!!"
((I'd say that's worth about .1 DEP and this card
Iron Fist
Any Digimon equipped with this card will obtain a fist of iron, allowing all physical attacks to gain twenty points of damage. Electric attacks gain thirty points of damage. It lasts for two turns, so it must be used wisely.
