Snake Bite - November 25, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
Ok I had my comp running yesterday fine, but today the monitor wont switch on (well i does, for a couple of seconds, then switches off or into some sort of sleep mode)
It was working fine last night and I havent changed anything about it at all,
Any Ideas?

Ok, I'm definately not a computer expert, but I think I know what you're describing, and it doesn't really fit...
When I turn the monitor on when the computer is off, the light goes green, to show it's working then it says "no signal" or something and then the monitor goes off with the light switching to orange, showing it's on standby.
It doesn't fit to what you're saying because your computer is on right? Well try unplugging and plugging in the monitor cable thing.
I dunno, but I hope it helps.

nah, thanks for trying though
It happens when the comp is on and off, the monitor comes on, goes off and the green light flashes (as if its in standby mode or somthing)
I've tryed un-plugging it etc, same thing happens each time
Though one strange thing i found was that the green light continued to flash even after unplugging the cable

Well maybe you aren't unplugging the wrong cable? How can it continue to flash without recieving any energy? Not like it stores some or something.

I have no Idea how it could contine to flash, but it would only do do for about 5 more times after being unplugged. (and I was unplugging the right thing, its an old CRT monitor, theres only one thing on the back that can be unplugged, the power)
Any how, I worked out that it was lack of RAM that wouldn't allow it to boot, because Im custom making this computer from an old one I got of a friend (who had used it for pieces) and I didn't realise that it only had 64 megs of RAM, I tryed it with a couple other screens and had the same problem, and the only thing I had changed was I took the RAM out, but most of the RAM I have lying around dosnt say what it is (same with the RAM I took out), any way I just did a trial and error run and now have 256 RAM in there (which I hope to update to 1 gig when I can) :D

you ahve a dell?? cuz what happens when you go into sleep mode or the computer is off but the screen is on is the little green light will turn orange this happened when i installed a new graphic card... we had to swtich the monitor where it pluged in...
is there another port to plug your monitor into.. if so try cagning it restarting the computer aka turn off turn on since you can't see anything.

ok this can be caused by a various amount of things eg ram speed isnt set correctly, Cpu bus speed is too high, Cpuu is nhad it, Graphsics card is had it. I would say open the pc when off and unplugged, then make sure the gra[hysics card is seated into the pci,agp slot. Then make sure the monitor plug their ant any bent pins, then plug it back in and screw it in for saftey. Now try again. If not ill will explain the other ways.
