Title: paperclip lock picking
Description: i can do it, can you?

chad1416 - January 6, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
it took me about 2 minutes to show you everything and pick the lock... at one point you will see me switch torque wrenches, thats because that one bent, so i had to start all over.(after all, i am using paperclips.)

the movie is sideways, and it is out of proportion, but who cares?

It looks like a hair thing that girls use would be easier to unlock it.

wait, how did that work?
I didn't see you picking it, as much as just "sawing" the paperclip into it...

I'd like to know if the regular key still works with the door, or if it can still lock.
from what I saw it looks like you just worked the pins out. which would make the lock useless.

thats the rake method, much easier. you just turn the lock with something(i used a paperclip) and scrap something against the pins. and yeah the key still work; it didnt hurt the lock at all. besides a few sratches on the outside door knob where the paperclip popped out.

EDIT: i guess you could say i did just work the pins out, but the pins have springs behind them, so they always just pop back into place. thats the same thing a key does to the door. just in a simpler way

What do you think lock picking is?

You use your tool to 'rake' the pins down. Or you can use a bounce type method. Which is how a lock picking gun works.

Or, you could shoot the knob. That opens doors in gamez.

you don't just push the pins down, that'd be too easy.
you have to pop the pins into place and align them all, that's not the same as just putting them down.

a key has an uneven surface because certain pins need to be in certain spots, leveling them all out flat just won't work on most locks.

I know that. You just said it like you've never seen someone pick a lock before.

actually, you do just push the pins down... if you turn the lock while you push the pins down, it pops them out of the cylinder, and since the cylinder is turned they just rest on the edge, temporarily.

years?
you're like, what? 13 or 14 years old?
you learned to pick locks at 10?

I HIGHLY doubt it, some house doors have a simple lock that can be unlocked with anything, like a screw driver or butter knife, you just need to turn it from the inside.
so if you "picked" one of those I'd believe you, but not a padlock.
theres no way you can pick a regular lock.

An easier way to get into most doors is to just shim it open with something flat.
as long as it doesn't have a secondary lock, and is just a regular door lock you can just slide something under the thing that goes into the door jam, idk what it's called, but you'll notice the edge is angled so it can close easily, you just have to slide something under that and it'll just pop open.

actually most front doors, not counting the top lock (not the one in the door) are the exact same, but they have more pins. the door i picked had five; im pretty sure my front door has 8. if my dad leaves the house i will try to make a video of me picking my front door

EDIT: misread what you said what do you mean by a real lock? a front door?

vettefan88 - January 12, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
no, like the doors on the inside of a house.
the locks can usually be opened with any flat object.
just stick it in and turn.

exterior house doors would of course have a "real" lock, with the pins and all.

that one was a real lock, with pins and tumblers. if it was possible to just turn it, it would have happened when i turned the torque wrench.
my dad changes the door knob on that door so it would take a key, because thats where he gets his ass, so he needs a way to keep me out during the process. well not keep me out, but to prevent accidents.
