If you're gonna upgrade TVs, you might as well make it a good one, as you probably won't come across the opportunity for another few years - even if it means stretching the budget a bit.
You're just increasing your TV size by 4 inches...and it isn't exactly a big TV to start with.
Doesn't have to be a MASSIVE improvement like 32" or something, but atleast something in the 20" range - but I guess it'll be out of your budget, but it won't be too big for how far you sit.
Just a suggestion...oh and make a good brand, otherwise you'll find your HD picture is pretty shit and it'll most likely break within a few months. There's more than just checking if it runs HD when looking for a HDTV - especially with games.
Stuff like a fast response time, high colour contrast, high colour quality, richness + vibrance, sharpness, and black level are probably the main ones.
Also you'll see that most HDTVs have terrible built-in speakers, so a seperate speaker system would be reccomended.
Oh, and remember that your SD picture quality (standard definition) would be shit as hell compared to a normal SDTV - so don't expect a massive improvement when watching normal TV, cos you'll most likely find that it's a downgrade.
Just remember it's better to stretch the budget a bit and get a good item that you'll be happy with for the next few years, then buying a cheap item within your budget that'll keep you pleased in the short term but will soon keep you wishing you had spent a bit more on something better.

1. Dont get a HDTV atm. They will go down after Christmas, when all the shops need to get rid of them before the new ones start coming in.
2. DONT get a HDTV if its going to be 19". It has to be at least 22 for it to be worth it.
Right now, HDTV's are needed. Wait till mid 08, not only we'll their be better TV's out (meaning the current ones will be cheaper), but also then their will be better games to enjoy.
At 19", you cant get 1080p. So wait till you can get one of those.
I'm playing on a 36" SDTV. Its fine.

Well at 19" you don't need 1080p as you won't be able to notice the difference at all.
The difference between 1080p and 1080i becomes noticeable at around 37" and above from a normal distance.

That ain't surround sound man, that's just extra speakers.
MC.Payne - October 28, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
yeh i got 5 speakers around the room
emcp - October 28, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
ok thanks for the response
i googled more and got more answers ike response time which is 5ms and contrast etc
i also had read several comments saying about the sound but ive got an unused surround sound system that i might try and get working again
also i thought it wouldnt be noticeable but seeing vii said you dont see a difference yet in the games i can wait so thanks alot (i was actually lookin for a 22" and wouldnt mind paying more for it but i havnt actually saw much 22" hdtv's)
also when would be the best time , christmas sales or mid 08
THANKS

Well when would you lower the price of your products?
The time where a lot of people are out there purchasing gifts for others, or after the massive rush of purchasing where then not a lot of sales are being made?
emcp - November 17, 2007 12:07 AM (GMT)
mmm well ive been looking and ive seen some amazing deals and ive decided stuff the christmas sales (as currys has some really good sales off £100 etc off and after the sale it actually goes back up again)
ive decided its gonna have to be a 32"
and ive found this
ORION TV-32082
at first i thought it was amazing then i researched then though mmm maybe not i then continued looking at BUSH tvs thought i got the one i wanted but wanted to make sure so i went back to the ORION and got a several reviews all of them brilliant
and it sames ORION is made by Sony vice versa
and anyway see the wee note you put in about brand names i quite simply dont trust them , it seems some brands put devices in there 32" tvs in which after the warranty is up the TV breaks ive had first hand Experience with it and its a pain
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_...3&category_oid=http://www.ciao.co.uk/Orion_TV32082__6615816#productdetailanyway im going for the ORION TV-32082 unless someone gives me a strong reason not too
THANKS

Seriously dude, invest in a better brand. The size is good enough, but the brand needs to be better if you want to get the most out of what HD has to offer, and possibly reliability issues can pop up.
Remind me of your budget again.

it supports everything up to 1080i, but NOT 1080p.
That means you won't get the most out of HD games and movies, but you'll still be watching in HD atleast.
Not getting all technical, the basic difference is that 1080p provides a clearer, sharper picture than 1080i.
emcp - November 22, 2007 11:38 PM (GMT)
mmm what about this, i think i found a great bargain
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/cata...PLASMA%20TV.htmi can get the exact same one for £200 less but i have to buy it this weekend
it is a Sharp LC32AD5E 32in HD Ready Digital LCD TV
6ms response time can support 1080i but doesnt reach it, it is also 750p
and if im right sharp is a half decent brand
Vii - December 19, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Get a 1080i TV and you will be eating £400.
As i said before, wait. I'm playing on a SDTV because i dont think 1080p's are worth £500+. I'll just wait till OLED ones come out, meaning ALL HDTV's will drop by at least £200

Cool I got the 46" version of that for £1200, but it looking at Comet or Curries right now, the 52" one is now £999....that's a bargain.
Meh, I guess you can't complain as prices will always lower than what you bought it for everytime. Atleast we had the luxury of having one of the best HD LCD TVs on the market for a good few months before.
