Before I start spilling the beans, i'd like to warn everyone. There are spoilers in this topic, but for those who have uncontrollable eyes, i'll colour them white. So they're only viewable when highlighted.
Firstly a member of GameFAQs by the name of 'Jadex9' has posted information regarding how GTAIV starts and some features. Remember this guy has no proof backing his claims, but they do seem very intricate and 'Rockstar-like'.
According to him, the main character isnt Niko Bellic, its his cousin Roman Petronov.

Petronov went to Liberty after having problems with the paramilitary/Mafioso hybrid wing in Estonia. He then invited Bellic to ask for help with his problems with shady characters trying to get into his Taxi-Firm Roman works on a co-operator term.

To be able to familiarize yourself in the game, a couple of prologue missions will be available at the start. These are where you'll play as Nikko Bellic. Before the prologue ends, Nikko goes to his cousin's associate, Mosha, to recover drug money from one of the gangs in Liberty known as Carta Once (Card 11). This gang is based from the Columbian Cartels in GTA III and real-life gang MS-13.
Nikko then dies in this encounter, leaving Roman with guilt and grief. He eventually turn into a criminal and a "working man". If it turns out to be true, the background story is actually going to be gripping and well tailored.

Heres some more info:


-There are three helicopters in the game (all respawn): one police cruiser, one for the Liberty Tree News paper which also became news channel WILC, and one that's owned by a person you'll be working with for most of the game.
- Bikes are out, but six motorcycle types are in.
- C-11 will be a HUGE enemy in the game.
- The Russian and Italian Mafias are at war and you'll get to do missions for both.
- Maibatsu has become a major player in Liberty City, and Monstrositys are the norm in upper-middle class areas.
-You will be mugged/lacked/lumped/begged for money/held-up/car jacked and possibly initiated into three different gangs, where you will be able to climb the ranks, through their own set of missions.

Card 11 as MS13 is that possible????? Also there aren't that much columbians in MS13, the gang based in L.A then moved to El Salvador where most of the gangs people are from.

6 motorcycles, I know theres a lot more space to put at least 4 more.

3 helicopters?? I know the rain dance has to be there, Hunter, other new Helis (at least 10 helis should be in the game in my opinion)

These rumours are interesting... but rumours they remain. Even if the author had not revealed his hoax, after various experiences there (which are not worth elaborating on) I am sceptical of anything posted on GameFAQs' boards as a matter of principle.

I am very pleased the protagonist is apparently not trying to be "hard" or "gangsta" this time. The Russian(?) heritage will also open many interesting plot lines--perhaps a cameo mission where you go to Moscow, similar to the one in San Andreas?

Chill out people... No need for any of this... and Vii, bare in mind both DDM and psphacker have both made a huge contribution to Cheatsync putting in hours of their own personal time... Both deserve a massive amount of respect on these forums and on the main site...

DDM runs our forums fantastically and has produced some unbelievable cheats in our database and without psphacker nobody would be moderating the cheats at all... He goes through 100s of cheats, testing them all the time correcting where necessary and reporting spam (not to mention posting quality cheats himself)...

Little disputes like this often occur because you are communicating with text only and misunderstandings easily happen... Everybody be adult and just take these things on the chin...
