Title: drunk and disappointing

Just a thought,

Perhaps some negative modifiers for constant carousing, on duelling or NA or increased disease risk etc.

Like I said just a thought, might be just another admin hassle.

Don't be silly - alcoholism was unheard of at this time! Constant carousing was known as "being a man!"

Some games do have special drunkenness rolls, which are fun.

The thing about carousing is that we don't order "I will be drinking until I pass out." You're at a club, having a good time, but not necessarily to a health-threatening level.

Sailors on shore have a certain reputation to uphold! ;)

Strangely, I have been thinking about what to do about players who do not put orders in. I have just been"floating" them, with minimum expenditure and no change to SL.

Other games have default orders, such as going to church or practicing their weapons which kick in if no orders are recieved.

Being sailors on shore without discipline or self-motivation, I think the default orders should read:

Do ships duty: otherwise Weeks 1-4 carouse in bawdyhouse with female companionship!

Dissolute, drunken and damned, that's your sailor man.

This may come across as a bit harsh but, given that you send a couple of warnings that orders are due I don't see why characters shouldn't suffer SP loss if they don't elect to act. O.K., if someone is late and hasn't been able to contact you then no penalty but otherwise...

When you go to the bawdyhouse you run the risk of robbers and the press-gang, so anyone who doesn't send orders in would be likely to find himself broke and at the front fairly quickly! And once at the front, sooner or later you will get killed.

It seemed quite an elegant way of encouraging players to post orders, and of having a process where characters which are not being played will be removed from the game eventually. Losing SPs as well would seem a bit cruel.

4 weeks in the Bawdyhouse sounds reasonable to me. If PCs want to turn themselved in to NPCs, then fair enough!

Ok for you to say that, being a midshipman, I can only go ashore 3 times ( any chance of being able to bring female company back to my ship ?) :P

Having just sent in my orders I am happy with 4 weeks (minus ship duty)...in one game I play in (Pevans game) he give a count on NMR (no move received) and after the second they volunteer for the front...you can ask to be floated which is basically a freeze and is done when you can't get orders in for that turn...
