Title: Turn 38 update

Harbour Master - July 7, 2007 01:10 PM (GMT)
Right status so far;

We have all the reports.
we do not have the character sheets
we have no response from our GM (phone, email or shouting loudly at the monitor) none seem to work

We the few captains left are commited to carry on running this game and I apologuise on behalf of us to you the gamers for this.

We hopefully will sort it out soon...

Sad to hear that... :o

Hope that Andy is on holidays and nothing serious has happened!

Harbour Master - July 8, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
well I have sent a mail to him on all his email adresses asking him to contact me.

aquazoo - July 9, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
I also hope all is well with Andy.

Do we need to send out last character sheets to someone? Of course, everyone might end up 2,000 gunieas richer and a few points more burly...

Harbour Master - July 10, 2007 08:40 AM (GMT)
me too,

it is a possibilkty we are looking at once again mine and the other GMs apologies

petebriny - July 11, 2007 02:32 PM (GMT)
Why not ask all the players to send last turns back to you so you can see were we are standing ?

I think mine said
Tibs = £4000000 GP, SL37 and knocking off 6 girls.
Ow, and promoted to Admiral as well. :p2: :p2:

Harbour Master - July 16, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
well no reply from red now or Andy I am getting a tad worried and embarassed thatwe have not resolved this issue

If any one hears from either of the above let me know please.... :(

aquazoo - July 20, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
I'm still wondering how the boxing match went...

Harbour Master - July 21, 2007 11:06 AM (GMT)
Right I am going to upload the social, duelling and political reports. Andy never sent the boxing report in like the character sheets they never appeared. It may be a good idea to try and go forward with these, but I am not sure how.

basically I have explored all the options for taking the game forward, in the end we need a GM number cruncher and without one we will not go far. Ash has said he could do a limited turn for a turn or 2 thats all.

So what do we do?

aquazoo - July 21, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
Ok, maybe we need to look at why the "number cruncher" position is not desireable. If we look at the reasons, maybe it will be easier to find someone?

Writers seem to be readily available. I have offered that myself as well.

1. Commitment? We all have real-life issues, and if someone writes an article or three and then stops, it's not so bad. On the other hand, consistency is believed to be best for number-crunching.

2. Liability? I assume someone looks over the articles and edits as necessary, and a mistake can be fixed with a note afterward. A numbers mistake may be harder to catch before it goes out to the players.

3. Automation? People have talked about it enough — I know the programs are out there! People sent them to me a couple of years back. Unfortunately for me, as a Mac user & non-microsoft, things did not work. Everyone else in the EG world seems to be using Word and Excel, so where did those programs go? Would automation make the number-crunching more attractive to someone?

I will do the next turn...but we need to get hold of the character sheets...

Harbour Master - July 21, 2007 03:43 PM (GMT)
Ok report has been updated with the reports...

Harbour Master - July 21, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
This is from Ash what do you all think?

I will need three weeks between turns and a three week span to number crunch...mean six weeks between deadlines... is this OK.?

aquazoo - July 21, 2007 10:25 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a good plan to me! Should we send our charcter sheets & last orders to Ashley, or are you still hoping to get them?

Harbour Master - July 22, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
Guys,

there is a new character sheet on the yahoo group site in the files section. Please download it and fill it in and then send it to me make sure it is labled as your player name, that is JOGroats.doc so I know whose it is and send it to me entitled character sheet, with all LAST MONTHS actions on them

Terry

It's in Word. :(

Andy Scott - July 22, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
Carol,

I can send it to you as a PDF?

It's a renamed copy of the Bare Bones character sheet, how do you deal with that?

If everything else fails send me your details and I'll do it for you :type:

aquazoo - July 23, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
The problem is, a format like that for submititng orders does not work for me. It's not bad for a minimal type of game, but the spaces are not enough for adding detail to orders. With the amount of roleplay we have in Briny, descriptions of parties, speeches, etc — are they supposed to be sent separately?

It may discourage people from sending the fun details. When I'm resolving a turn, I really like it when players include things like gifts for courting a mistress, a new outfit for a party, perhaps a fireworks display... :) If it's a case of adding another two lines, will the player bother to do that if they run out of space? Maybe that's a desired change, to get rid of that extra info, but I think it adds depth to the game.

I realize people have to send in their character sheets right now, and we have joked about changing stats. But I don't think it's a good idea for people to send their stats in again for each turn. We like to think everyone is honest, but I have had a few conversations about unscrupulous players who will try to pull a fast one. The game is available for anyone to join, unlike a private game of friends around the dinner table.

Likewise, being open for anyone to join, I think it should be more accessible and not rely on having expensive software. If it didn't come with the computer, Microsoft Word is expensive. So is InDesign — what I did before was place the PDF and add in all the boxes for data, and I use InDesign for that.

So, I'm not going to use the form for orders. I don't care how the character sheet is done, as long as I can read it and have my information and totals.
