Harry Champion - June 4, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Its not so much the waiting but just the lack of any info. If help is required please ask I'm sure there are plenty here who are willing.

Harbour Master - June 5, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Ok I have just done the parliament and the duelling reports John is busy finishing the scoiall write up then we are ready!! :xcite:

However :( Andy informs me that he has lost his enthuasiasim for the GM ing side of the game an a result turn around is suffering .

Is there any one out there that feels they could fill the GM's shoes and take over Andys role as the GM?

Please either email me or Red or alternatalivy post here...... :type:

aquazoo - June 5, 2007 09:30 PM (GMT)
Nooo, not GM burnout!!!!

:( :HH:

I can certainly relate to slow mode. Unfortunately I don't know what would help, either...

Harbour Master - June 6, 2007 03:41 PM (GMT)
yes however we are open t o new GMs even on a temporary basis t help out we dont want to see the game go down the pan. Even if it was a different GM each turn.

However maybe we should start a rota and have a new GM every 3 months?

Harbour Master - June 7, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)
no takers?

be aware IF this is the last turn (which I hope not!) we may go out on a bang......

Andy Scott - June 7, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
I would love to do it butI'm fairly sure I don't have the time

However knowing that various different people do different bits you might get more people tempted if you were a little clearer about what you need doing and the amount of time and anything else it requires?
:capt:

Harbour Master - June 7, 2007 03:59 PM (GMT)
Right...
me or John do the write ups (social, political and duelling) Red can do the battles.

We need some one to do the actual mechanics of the GMing thats the results from every ones turn.

Harry Champion - June 7, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
If its just a matter of rolling dice for everybody's actions and passing the results along then I am willing to give it a go. I just need to know whats required.

The Navy Clerk - June 7, 2007 07:34 PM (GMT)
Sorry about letting everyone down like this, but I have just been finding it really hard to find the time for Briny, and when I do have have the time, I don't seem to have the enthusiasm anymore to carry me through the tedious bits of the resolution.

In answer to Andy's question, what I do is:

Get all the orders for the turn from players

Start a resolution document listing all the actions of all the players by week to sketch out how the characters will interact with each other.

Go through each character's orders and update the character sheets. This means checking and judging against the rules and making the necessary rolls and calculations, updating the resolution document and all the Gazette tables as I go along.

Then I send the raw information of what everybody did to Red/Ash for the Navy write-up, and Terry/John for the social. They write it into a story and send it back, and I cut and paste it into that month's Gazette, proof read it, make necessary changes and e-mail it to all the players, along with their updated character sheet.

I haven't managed to make any workable shortcuts and do it manually, but then I don't understand website/database deisgn/programming. Possibly someone with more computer knowledge could automate the tedious bit, which is calculating the money and status points for each player.

I have been GM for a year now, and I have really enjoyed it. I would be sorry if Briny folded, but I can't promise to turn things around any quicker than I have been doing the last two issues and I was hoping someone would be willing to take it over.

Any takers?

Andy Scott - June 9, 2007 08:30 AM (GMT)
As I suspected I just do not have the time currently to run Briny :(

What about you Harry, still interested? :poke:

Or anybody else for that matter! :capt:

aquazoo - June 11, 2007 03:21 PM (GMT)
Automation might help. I have someone from Elan who is working on his doctorate in computer programming - he may have finished by now. He was working on an automated En Garde system for one of his school projects.

It looked really good. My own reason to not use it was that it would tend to discourage players from adding detail to their orders. I like details from the players to flesh out the write-ups. (What gift did they use to court a mistress, etc.)

But as far as the number crunching, people have made spreadsheets and programs to do just that. Is that something that would help?

Harbour Master - June 15, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
ok I will be doing the write in the next 24hours John is off work ill and unablwe to complete the write up so expect it soon folks and thanks for bearing with us...

Andrew Miller - June 18, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
I have the information...and week 1 is done...

I will get it done as quickly as I can...but please bear with me...

cheers

Ash

Andrew Miller - June 19, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
I have done the social...Terry did the political and Red and I did the Naval...so hopefully we can tie it all together soon and ...

how we doing on a new number cruncher?

:)

Ash

Andrew Miller - June 23, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Any news?

petebriny - June 23, 2007 10:22 AM (GMT)
My I suggest that the request for a number cruncher GM is posted via the yahoo mail ?, that way every player gets the message, as I believe that only a small number acutely read this message board.

Harbour Master - June 23, 2007 12:24 PM (GMT)
me and Red are discussiing it. The write ups are done we are wondering what Andy is doing now with it all :tumb:

Harbour Master - June 26, 2007 08:17 AM (GMT)
Any one heard from Andy he seems to have gone awol?

He has not replied to my mails nor Reds as far as i am aware?

If any one knows how ro contact him gie him a nudge please :poke:

aquazoo - June 26, 2007 06:41 PM (GMT)
> Possibly someone with more computer knowledge could automate the tedious bit, which is calculating the money and status points for each player.

This may be helpful for the current & next number-cruncher: my character sheets are actually spreadsheets. I do go through each one and check the status of the mistress, the clubs, etc and enter crowns & points spent and gained for each week. The spreadsheet does the simple addition for the final cash & SP totals.
