Religeon is needed. It keeps people in line, through fear of cosmic punishment.

al-Gamer - November 7, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
Religion isn't needed. Atheists don't need a skydaddy jerking em off fer eternity in order to behave.

I may be stupid, but religion is always stupider. >_>

Bull shit its needed everythign gained by religion can be gained through life experience.

ALso Agree with topic title. I just spent last like hour or so trading music with some dumbass kid only listened to 2 of the CDs he's sent so far but both of them are religious hip-hop >_<

frozensun - November 7, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
religion was needed before law became enforcable.

Lunch Lady Maviss - November 7, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Ya but at this point its fucking useless unles your one of the dicks using it to get rich.

frozensun - November 7, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
the main point of religion was to control, money came after

Lunch Lady Maviss - November 7, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
Thats why I said at this point....

UberSsjNaruto - November 7, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
Religion is good because otherwise you wouldn't know when you've done wrong so you would automatically go to hell.

Lunch Lady Maviss - November 7, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
Are you serious? You don't need religion to know good morales.

Imagine theres no religion and I come up to you and punch you in the face as hard as I can 30 times. YOur obviously going to assume thats wrong because you have physical and emotional feelings.

Maviss, shut up. Not all people will just think that.

Robotussin Trip - November 7, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
To add on, if you were beat your whole life by your parents and looked down on and insulted your whole life, chances are you're going to repeat the actions on other people because you don't know better or you're conditioned to act that way.

So you'll grow up beating people up with no remorse, talking down to people etc, and not feel a damn thing.

You don't just "feel" that what you did was wrong out of nowhere.

It's called conditioning/learning.

When you're a kid, and you hit your sister, you parents will yell at you and tell you it's wrong. When you went to the store and you liked something when you were a little kid and took it, and your parents yelled at you because it's stealing, you'll realize not to do it later on in life.

Little things like that..."morals" like that you have to learn. And why do we learn them? Because we all must learn to live witheachother in this world.

It may not have anything to do with religion. But in my opinion, religion (to a certain extent) has helped this world with "learning morals" and being nice to eachother.

But I'm not talking about "what God do you believe in?" religion. Religion has many levels. And for the most part all religions have a "be nice and do good things" type of idea.

Ignore the elitist/extremist religious people. They're scared and arrogant. Most likely they're also ignorant as well. The same goes for elitist/extremist non-religious people.

Mr. ShagBot5000 - November 7, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
Which is why everyone needs to shut up and deal with the fact that people believe different things.

al-Gamer - November 7, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
The fact is that religion just took the best (most survivable) morals from ancient society, added them to bullshit and deluded or coerced pretty much everyone into agreeing. Religion has no place in the modern world and people need to grow up and see that.

Drink Top - November 7, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
So we should agree to your worldly views with BS in it? I don't know what religious person or thing shoved a steel rod up your ass recently but if you've looked around you would know that religion does have a place, even if it's just a bunch of rules with strange clauses. Not everyone will do what's right because it's just right. Some people need threats such as hell to keep them from running around causing chaos.

Mr. ShagBot5000 - November 7, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
Besides, do you really want to see what the extremist religious people would do if they didn't think they could go to Hell?

Drink Top - November 7, 2007 11:11 PM (GMT)
They would become extremist something elses. Which is another thing, crazy religious people would still be crazy even if religion didn't exist.

Shit like the crusades would still happen, so don't try that angle either.

Mr. ShagBot5000 - November 7, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
After all, we all saw the South Park episodes where Cartman went into the future, right?

EggRow - November 8, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)
I assume Shag and BC are religious. <_<

Hey, I didn't say anything about their points being invalid. I merely made an assumption.

bish

Robotussin Trip - November 8, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
I'm not too religious, but I understand that Religion isn't stupid.

Don't generalize all religion because a group of extremists pissed you off.

Uhh ya and if you go around and beat people like that with no remorse your going to get yourself fucked over someone bigger is either going to kick your ass or your going to jail.

It's called conditioning/learning.

....I understand that and thats what I'm saying you learn your based on the actions of others and how you react to them emotionally. Like you said if you grew up getting beat you may think thats a good thing but once your around people who aren't beating you your going to realize thats the better situation making you conclude that beating people makes them less happy then not beating them.

It may not have anything to do with religion. But in my opinion, religion (to a certain extent) has helped this world with "learning morals" and being nice to eachother.

Eh not really I mean ya it has taught them but it would have been done anyway. I will admit like some other people have said it keeps people in line but it also puts people over the line.

clearly, you need to look more into stimulus generalization. >_>;

Mr. ShagBot5000 - November 8, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Yes, because bullies who get beaten up by their parents obviously realize that it's better not to be a bully. That's why they exist.

Robotussin Trip - November 8, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
Maviss, not one point you made helped your argument. lol.

Lunch Lady Maviss - November 8, 2007 12:33 PM (GMT)
Maviss, not one point you made helped your argument. lol.

How so? Your saying that people who grow up in certain environments grow up thinking thats the right lifestyle to life. Making religion useful to teach these kids right from wrong correct?

I'm saying you take that kid out of that enviorment and put him into the complete opposite one and they will realize what they grew up in is wrong and what there in now is right. Unless you've damaged your brain from constantly being beaten or from substance abuse your going to feel better emotionally with the people who have good morales.
