Title: Challenge for Hyperpsychomaniac
Description: The name says it all...I think?

Rotgut - July 3, 2005 10:04 AM (GMT)
This is a fanfic challenge set for Hyperpsychomaniac.

I know you've already written a fanfic based on the video game, but it is only one chapter. I challenge you to write a full story, based on the video game (you do know what you mean? Like mine.)

I would like to see how you do a fanfic on the game, I'm sure it will be GRAND! :D

Please do one! I'm begging you! Waaaaaahhhh!!!! :(

Sarah Frost - July 3, 2005 10:17 AM (GMT)
...And I, Rotgut, DEMAND that you do a fic about my OC Gabrielle Marietta Suzanna Brandon Aretmidora Virus-Lightning!

Rotgut I don'tthink you've quite grasped the cocnept of the fanfic challenge. A fanfic challenge have to be open to EVERYONE who wants to, not directed at one person. And you've already fanficc'ed the game.

You can either 1) create a set of fic requirements and set them down for ALL PEOPLE. or B) offer to write a fanfic challenge yoruself if somebody else gives you the details to work with. (i.e. You can say "Give me any of the following = a pairing, an object, a single word, a fandom... etc... and I will write you a fanfic including all those things.")

You can't direct them at one person. It's not really fair. Why don't you just ask H if she has time when she gets back?

Sarah Frost - July 3, 2005 10:27 AM (GMT)
Yes. Demanding fanfics of certain types of specific people is simply Not On. We do this for fun and we don't get paid for it, and it's really just impolite to pester one person in particular.

Rotgut - July 3, 2005 10:39 AM (GMT)
Ah! Right. Who is Gabrielle Marietta Suzanna Brandon Aretmidora Virus-Lightning?

Sarah Frost - July 3, 2005 10:42 AM (GMT)
I don't know. I was trying for Mary-Sue parody in the name. :) Perhaps mpreg was involved...

hyperpsychomaniac - July 4, 2005 10:48 AM (GMT)
Hehe.

I'll think about doing some type of fic like that. Tell ya what, I'm on holidays at the moment, if I get a total idea block in the middle of them, then I'll have a go at writing it. It would probably be fun. But, yeah, don't tell me what you want me to do, I'll get cranky and pull your head off or something :P

Rotgut - July 4, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
Okay, change this. I challenge all of you to write a fic on the video game. Now, I know that some of you haven't even played the game, but you can use the info in the games category to help you, and come up with your own ideas, like I did! Come on partners, it is time to get imaginative and creative! Yee-haw!

Scarab Dynasty - July 4, 2005 11:26 PM (GMT)
I'd like to think I'm always imaginative and creative RG, but of course, so are all of us ALFS ;) it's in our nature.

See that was a proper challenge.

Rotgut - July 5, 2005 04:05 PM (GMT)
What was a proper challenge?

Scarab Dynasty - July 5, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)
Your variation: you changed your challenge so that it was directed at all of us not just our talented H, which made it a real challenge and not a request. Though, really, I think challenges are supposed to be suggested so that they can be written by anyone who wants to, just for their own personal entertainment. And they're usually short.

Nyeh, what do I know? I just like making them up :D

Rotgut - July 7, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
So do I, but I'm still confused?!

Scarab Dynasty - July 7, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
Okay look at it like this, what you did first was ask H to write a fanfic for you. Which would have been alright if you had actually mailed her or soemthing and just asked her if she could do it, but you phrased it like a challenge, which was sort of pushing the person in question to do it.

Real Fanfic Challenges meanwhile are, IMO thing which you write for anyone who may be curious in doing one with the suggestions you put forwards. You put down a set of dieas for a fic, and then challenge people to write a fic, involving all the details and "rules" if you like, that you have set down.

Fanfic challenges are something for people to do for fun, when and if they feel like it, and I'd like to think they may also come in handy for getting rid of people's writer's block my giving them something to work with.

So a challenge would be: "Write a fanfic based on the ace lightning videgame, be as original as you want."

a request would be: "*insert name of writer here*, could you perhaps write me a fic based on the Ace Lightning videogame?"

The first was a challenge, the second was a request.

Try reading Scarabs Challenges - I think I give some pretty good exmaples of what constitutes a fanfic challenge.
