Title: Scarab's Challenges

Sarah Frost - June 20, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
Scarab:

A game to be done only if you really want to (and have time)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why am I doing this? I have no clue whatsoever...

Okay this is just a little something I cooked up (oh okay so I nicked the idea off Emma!) for people who want to write something but have no PB's handy or they're all sleeping' or you're just bored or sick of assignments or whatever. If you want you can just ignore it, but it might be fun. You're gonna need a dice. See the list below? Roll the dice and whichever response you get, write a 100 word AL drabble on that character or idea to post below.

1, Unusual (albeit impossible) pairing
2, Something to do with Pigface
3, An evil's dark or not-so-dark past story.
4, Something with a Blackbird in it.
5, The CG's experiences with a mortal object (IE, television)
6, A CV (yes, CV!) for a Lightning Knight/Evil.

Since everyone's in examination hell right now, sooo I don't expect this to get a work out yet. I'd do one myself but... well... I haven't got time. (And yet I have time to be on a forum working this all out... *shame on me*)

Scarab Dynasty - July 2, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
I'm in the mood for making challenges recently, for anyone who has the time to do them. Failing that, they may come in handy if you ever find yourselves with a bad case of writer's crash.

So here's one for anyone who feels like a test.

Writing ficlet challenge.

Word Limit: 1000 words with a 20 word leeway for additional length (it can be as short as you like.)

Must include:
Pairing: Any pairing, canon or non-canon, no limits on freakiness provided it's plausible.
Object: A candle which has burned out, not extingished, burned right down.
Word: Repel

Genres, characters, age limit and all else is completely up to you.

Have fun :)

Scarab Dynasty - July 5, 2005 08:51 PM (GMT)
You know, I find it rather fun making these up, and it's nice to know they might come in handy for someone some day so... here you go:

Word Limit: 600 Words with a 50 word leeway.

Must Include:
Pairings: No pairings are nessecary, but must involve non-violent interaction between two characters that do not normally interact with each other to an extent in canon. I.e. Lady Illusion and Random Virus, Lord Fear and Sparx.

Word: Fantastic
Genre: Any genre except comedy (thought that might make it a little tricker.)

Pairings: CG canon or fanon pairing, need not take focal point in the fic.
Object: A hole in a wall, created by whatever means you wish.
Word: Tempermental

Word Limit: 300 words, twenty word leeway.

Must include: A character death which hasn't happened in Canon - permenant, not wipe out if in the case of a Knight or evil.

Btw, everyone else feel free to add to these with some challenges of your own.

Scarab Dynasty - August 7, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
I’m going weird on you now…

Go outside. If you can’t go outside, go to a window, shut your eyes and count to ten, when you open your eyes, take the first letter of the first object you see and relate it to the show of Ace lightning.

For example, it you see an… an alligator (some of us are in Aus right? :P) First letter: “A” – Ace, Amulet, etc… repeat this process a second time and take the first letter of the first thing you see again. Write a fic including these two things.

Scarab Dynasty - August 7, 2005 11:58 PM (GMT)
Write a fic including a pairing between two Knights.

The fic must:

Set in the human world or any dimension NOT the sixth (i.e. of your own imagining or fanon assumption.)

Be made up entirely of dialogue (That is conversational speech between two characters without any other description. For example

“where are we”
“I don’t know you have the map.”
“I did…”
“You lost it?”

…is total dialogue. While:

“where are we?’ Sparx grumbled tugging at her boot where it was coming off her foot.
“I don’t know you have the map.” Random grumbled back.
He couldn’t see her in the dark but he figured she was staring at her hands. “I did…”
“You lost it?” he snapped.

… is including description so is wrong for this challenges.

Must include a life threatening event.

Take one of the fanon titles suggested for possible episodes in the next series of Ace Lightning. Write an episode based on one of those titles.

Conditions: You cannot write a fic based on one of your own title suggestions.

Feel free to suggest your ideas for this chalege in the "Fanon Episode Titles" section.

Scarab Dynasty - October 16, 2005 08:04 PM (GMT)
Here’s a a toughie for you.

You must create a character with:

-A name with a deep meaning relating to his/her character or role.
-Incredible beauty/good looks of an unnatural sort – i.e. Turquoise hair, shocking pink eyes.
-A deep connection with and/or the ability to speak to animals
-A sweet and loveable, but determined personality
-An emotional or genetic connection to a canon character and/or a unique connection to the amulet of Zoar
-Have her deeply liked by certain canon characters whom you feel are important
-s/he must also be a Lightning Knight or recruited as one.
-Some kind of empathic, telepathic or telekinetic ability.

…Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Sounds like I’m asking you to create a Sue don’t it? Well this is your challenge: You have to write this character in however many or few words you wish, and make them a NON Sue. You cannot simply reverse the above characteristics of sweet and loved by animals to cruel and kicks animals for fun. That’s too easy. You have to keep the above characteristics exactly as they are, otherwise you’re free to use whatever setting, time, location and species you want.

Genre: Any genre EXCEPT parody –too easy :P
Word Limit: None, go wild, people.

Rotgut - October 17, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
I have a challenge for you:

1. Gameverse.
2. Must take place in Lady Illusion's funhouse.
3. As many characters as you like.
4. A situation that involves an argument.
5. Pigface must eat something stupid and end up with a grotesque reaction (eg: Hiccupping constantly)
6. Count Delusion must appear some when in it.

Genre: Any type, except parody.
Word Limit: I'll make it fair, 2000.

Scarab Dynasty - October 20, 2005 05:30 PM (GMT)
Great :D finally someone else posted a challenge.

Scarab Dynasty - April 28, 2006 10:58 PM (GMT)
New Challenge

Pick a number. Any number (well, any number between one and twenty six) The number you pick shall correspond to a rule on the "If I Am Ever a Lightning Knight…" list. Then I'll let you know which rule you got, and you can try to write a 50-300 word drabble on this rule. (No peeking at the list if you know where it is, that's cheating!)

Scarab Dynasty - August 3, 2006 11:00 AM (GMT)
Here’s a new fanfic challenge which must include all of the following in some way or form.

Pairings: Ace Lightning/Lady Illusion, Sparx/? (but you don’t hair to really pair Sparx with anyone if you don’t want to.)
Word count: Whatever you like. Must be longer than 50 words, though.
Object: A small glass jar with a broken lid.

Quote: ‘Let me ask you a few questions. Data,’ Guinan said. ‘If Geordi were in danger and the only way to save him would mean the end of your existence, would you do so?’

‘Yes, but that—’

‘That’s my point, Data. I’ve never known you turn away from anyone. That’s love, Data, that’s heart. You’re mistaking the emotion, the warm, fuzzy feeling of being in love, for the reality. Love isn’t just about emotion; it’s about choices and action.’

(NB: You don't have to make that quote exactly in your story - just deal with the idea the quote represents in the fanfic, in this case - self sacrifice and love.)

Sarah Frost - November 1, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
I came across this entry by Erastes, who's a Livejournalist formerly of the Harry Potter fandom who writes original homoerotic novels.

She checked out a plot generator, and got:

This narrative contains the non-human as genuinely strange and incomprehensible. It starts in a ballroom full of swishing skirts and duplicity with a shapechanger. The antagonist is an intelligent person and the plot involves elements like gender confusion and betraying one's creators.

Sound like an Acefic challenge, anyone? :P

Scarab Dynasty - February 4, 2008 08:37 PM (GMT)
Sounds more like a rerun of half the fanfics already out there :P And I'm fairly sure *I* wrote at least one of them...

Rotgut - February 5, 2008 11:27 AM (GMT)
You're right, it does...
