Title: Episode 1 Thoughts
Rider Jetfire - March 19, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
Well I just had the pleasure to see the very first ever episode of Ace Lightning!! So after finishing it I decided to share my thoughts with all of you on it.
-A very good introduction episode of the series. It set up the characters and the setting of the series and didn't feel rushed.
-Mark is a pretty good lead character. I don't think I'd want to marry him or anything but he's a pretty cool guy, and his character's reaction to everything going on is pretty believable.
-Ace=Sheer awesome. His powers don't seem to over the top (like many superheros of today), just a good ol bolt of lightning shot out of his hands and flying. His outfit is friggin sweet as well.
-The Villains are pretty good as well. Lord Fear is designed really well as is everyone else. Good selection of villains to have in this show.
-Samantha: She's pretty nice. Her boyfriend has got to go. The way she tells off Chuck was hilarious "I was talking to him." PWNED!!!
-Chuck: He's kind of annoying but I can somehow see myself kind of liking him a few times. Most of the time though I think I'll love to hate him.
-The music used in the school scenes was pretty nice. Anybody know if it was done by the same band that did the theme?
-That science teacher was a jerk. If Mark wasn't such a nice kid he should have punched him in the face. "Yeah, take that!!! SPORT!!!!
-Ace's little "message of the day" was actually pretty cool. Sure, it was a tad cheesy but it actually worked really well. In any other show it might have been pretty dumb.
-Ace is pretty trusting to just give this kid he just met his piece of the Amulet.
-I loved how the ending scene mirrored the beginning scene.
-HOLY FRACK!!! CLIFFHANGER!!!!!

Episode 2 gets better.
Most series should start like Ace Lightning should; introducing the plot and characters centre stage. Some shows take ages to introduce all their main characters.
I was never keen on Mark at first, due to his overworrying personality, the fact that his mouth was always hanging open and he said "Er" at practically every given moment really annoyed me. And then Episode 10 arrived and everyone changed... :D
Ace is every modern day superhero roled into one. He's got Superman's powers and sense of justice, Spider-Man's wit and Batman's angst moments. No cape though. :(
The villains are primarily why I watch this show! Lord Fear and his gang of minions are fantastic and are better than some of the supervillains today (but nothing beats Joker and Doctor Octopus).
Chuck and Samantha were the second core cast and helped push Mark's character forward. Chuck always upbeat and hilarious beyond comprehension. So is Mr. Cheseborough. Ace's message of the day is the code of the Lightning Knight.

Well he has another message in the episode along the lines of "Being a hero? Hey, you went to place you'd never been before, talked with strangers, now that, takes courage." It's also what inspired my signature pic :P
The code of lightning knight is awesome as well. Short and simple.

Ace is a good character for those PSAs. Totally believes in them, and totally dorky. ^^
The Lightning Knight motto suits them, though I think there should've been an episode deconstructing it. Do right, and fear not. But everyone's afraid sometimes--and doing right while fearing is what makes you truly brave. But the motto's also an encouragement not to fear, which is a good thing!
I didn't remember that Sam totally dissed Chuck in that scene. She is a lot nicer to him as the series goes on. I don't blame her for not liking the boy--he has zero social skills and throws up all the time. Doesn't mean he's not a good friend to Mark or that he deserves to be bullied, but...well, though she should've asked Mark when he was by himself, I can't really blame her for not wanting to invite Chuck.
The incidental music is nice; I prefer it to the theme actually!
I was never keen on Mark either, because if it was me I'd have been screaming in joy, but now I'm older I realise that Mark's ers and hesitations are pretty much realistic for a kid in that situation! Poor little Mark, now I'm nineteen and look down on him as a child my second youngest sister's age. (God, I'm old.)
Mr Cheseborough is fun when he's annoyed. He's so extreme. "Get out, you horrible little cretins!" He's a bad teacher, but bags of fun to watch like this.
Thing I Noticed From My Rewatch: I notice the girl with long blonde hair with Heather in the scene where she asks Mark if he's met the Queen is also shown passing notes with Sam in science class. I wonder if she shows up more in the background? Probably she's friends with them both.

Yeah, that is an interesting aspect of the Lightning Motto. Hmmm, perhaps it needs a fanfiction? :P
Well Sam didn't totally diss Chuck, I just found it quite hilarious how she just automatically said, "I was talking to him." She does seem really nice though. And once again, her boyfriend is just screaming to go.
Yeah, Mark is as confused and freaked out as any of us might be.
LE GASP!!! Recurring background characters, you actually don't see that a lot on TV. I like it when shows do that, gives you something to look for when you watch. :P

It is a small cast, with lots of recurring background characters. One of the many reasons why I love this show.
I particularly have taken to a liking to a background character seen in the carnival scenes. He's a big guy with a a beard and a cowboy hat. You first see him in Episode 3 near the end, and he's right there until the last episode when he is throttled by Mr. Cheseborough. :P

Can I just add to this, and say I nearly started, well, does anyone know that feeling, where somethings so adorable/awesome that you want to scrape your face off?
Well, Lord Fears pleading near the beginning did that to me, I ended up skipping back and watching that bit like 5 times, squealing like a fangirl X3

I guess that means your Lord Fear's biggest fan, although there's a guy on YouTube who seems to worship LF. :P
nattherat - March 26, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
 Ahahaha, is there? I haven't encountered him yet - I'll be looking out for him now XD
I don't imagine it'd be hard to beat me as a fan though D: I've hardly seen any episodes, its not until now that I've started to re-remember the series and understand why things happen
