Title: Possible New Ace Lightning RPG

allison lightning - February 6, 2008 11:04 AM (GMT)
I have rpged a lot (ussually in Dark Angel), but I've always been up for the idea of an Ace Lightning rpg-please realize this is a loose sketch only... I want to see if anyones intrested.....it was based off an idea for a fanfic but as I am slack enough with OUAT (Once Upon A Time) I decided not to.... in any case I am ussually busy enough with the rpging I have- so this depends entirely on intrest.

Title:'Faith, Choices and Destiny'

Baisc One Line Premise: Ace Lightning, AU.: What if Mark never left England and Ace Lightning started there.

Characters we could use

Mark

Pete

Whoever Holly was when Mark was reading off the back of the postcard in in the third episode of the first season ' Missed the party of the century at Holly's house'

We could use the same knights, evils, prehaps introduce them in a different order... (If any one wanted to use Distortion, they could play her, I sure wouldn't)

Instead of a carnival it could be an old medival castle amusement park- or just some scary woods and an old broken castle.

What are people's thoughts?

Sarah Frost - February 6, 2008 11:42 AM (GMT)
Mmm. :) I wish I could participate--yes, sign me up, though I'm probably going to be apt to desert my post at some point especially around exam time. :( An Ace RP sounds splendiferous.

I'm not sure about a lot of human OCs in England--that might be hard. I think most of us fans have been interested in the superheroics, and to have to go to the trouble of inventing new human characters...unless there's already some ideas, of course. It could definitely be interesting, and hopefully would develop into something nicely distinct from canon.

I'd be happy to try to fall in to whatever Ace RP happened, but while still in discussion I'd like to suggest something with more Sixth Dimension potential.

Rotgut - February 6, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
YES!!! I want to participate in this RPG, but can it possibly be on here and not on LiveJournal, because I cannot make an account on there for some reason.

I love this concept of this idea, being in England would be a new twist for the characters, Lord Fear and Staff Head would fit right in.

If this does go on ahead, which I hope it does - Dibs on the minions!

Scarab Dynasty - February 12, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
I, too, am not sure about setting it in england or an OC heavy environment as it's really the characters that make it what it is and... sues have a horrible tendency to show up in droves when fics are too OC centric.

But a new rp would be cool, had I time :)

allison lightning - February 25, 2008 02:56 PM (GMT)
There would be limitations to the amounts of kid characters, I know we don't want a Kat... and with England there is all sorts of history and mythology Camelot that we can weave into the stroy that can relate to the sixth dimension... I want this idea fine tuned before I create it...so ideas, constructive will add to the process.

And I'd need someone to co moderate with me, just to balance things out... Sarah would you?

Sarah Frost - February 27, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
I'd be honoured, of course. :)

Camelot, I see... ^_^ Knights, yay!

Who here is actually English? I know Anna and I are Aussies, Scarab and Rotgut are Brits, and I think you've said you were Australian too, Allison. :) We'll need your English advice, Rotgut!

random_gypsy - February 28, 2008 05:08 AM (GMT)
Hehe.I'm Aussie as well.

I did stuff on medieval history around last year...It was great! Sword fighting a-go-go! :P

*Sigh* I really really wish I could be part of the RP but i'm so busy at the moment I don't think I would have time (or be very good at it). Ah well, I love reading them and if this one goes ahead i'm sure it'll be really good. :D

Rotgut - February 28, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
What kind of advice are you seeking, Sarah?

Sarah Frost - February 29, 2008 05:38 AM (GMT)
Go Aussie random gypsyness!

Well, you and Scarab *are* British young adults of Ace's time period. :) You'll be able to help us when we get jargon and culture wrong. For an Australian-British example, last week my dad caught a blue-tongue in a box--when I told Scarab about it, she wasn't sure if my dad had been spelunking in boxes on a particularly cold day! (A blue-tongue is a lizard, for you other Englishfolk who mightn't have heard of them--the one we caught is now at home in our garden eating our snails. We kept her outside our front door for a while to get her used to our yard, and then let her go.) Hp_Britglish is a Livejournal resource for Britpicking--actual Brits telling HP writers what they need to note in their United Kingdom-set Hogwarts fanfics.

Rotgut - February 29, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
I can't really descirbe Britian, apart that it is one big mess. Our government seems to be caving in on itself and crime seems to be rising too. I suggest you hunt down a book called I think - A Guide to Britain - or something like that, it should help you.

Rider Jetfire - March 19, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
Well hey, I'd be interested in doing the RP, once I've seen a good amount of the episodes :D

allison lightning - March 20, 2008 02:54 AM (GMT)
Well the intrest is here, which is good I will start it up, the group tonight- if anyone has yahoo email adresses they would be helpful as the server doesn't like hotmail very much.

Just for curiousity my yahoo email adress is allison_lightning@yahoo.com

Rider Jetfire - March 20, 2008 10:19 AM (GMT)
Where exactly will this group be?

allison lightning - July 2, 2008 06:27 AM (GMT)
Sorrry for the delay guys, life got hectic and all crazy...yahoo groups

Ace RPG Found here

I'm leaving the memebership open as in, you click join you get in for a week after that it will be moderator approved which basically is to keep out mainly the spammers who run around thinking we care about some airplane deal...anny one from the Ace Lightning section of Fanfiction.Net will be at least a moderator...Sarah I'll make you an owner as soon as you join... I just don't know everyone's yahoo accounts so I can't just invite you so follow the link...

I will write up the biography format for the characters...speaking of which characters- you have a character you want to play pick them via the message board in an O.O.C titled message (for those who don't it means out of character). How it will go is Sarah being brilliant at picking things apart will be the one approving all original characters. Basicaly we will all pitch in and we will start the group when we have all the required starting characters organized.

See a file that I have not written like rules, or something liuke that feel free to write it up.

(Oh and I am playing Mark)

Characters like Sparx and Random, or Googler and Rotgut if you want to play them we will set up two settings, the main Enlish one and the sixth dimension, but you can only get them to Earth with the amulet... like in the show.

Rating wise, I know we are all smart enough to know not to write the whole NC 17... anything like that, I don't mean kiddie gloves by any means but not adult content overly.

-Allison

Rotgut - July 2, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)
I've just joined up on Yahoo and I'm ready to roll. The only problem is I do not know which character I wish to be. Plus, there are several questions I need to ask:

1. When you mean message board, do you mean this one or the "Recent Message" thing below the content of the RPG?

2. Can we have more than one character?

3. How many OCs are we allowed?

Sarah Frost - July 2, 2008 09:48 AM (GMT)
Wow, Allison, amazing! The group looks completely brilliant. I love the picture! I also really like the concept of 6D plotlines going on at the same time as on-Earth.

I've just joined (sorry about my silly yahoo name!). I think I'd like to try that English OC on the estate, though I'll take whatever you appoint--I must research for him by means of a course of Dorothy Sayers. I'll try not to be unreliable, though there will be times when I just can't get anything done.

Rotgut, I know how many OCs you like to put in your fics--unless they're human minor characters, I personally think it would be better if you stuck to a few. Better to put time and attention into one or two characters than flood England with OCs!

A question: how is dialogue to be managed? I love reading paragraphs rather than one-liners, but managing conversation between characters is going to be difficult, especially with timezones. And yet character conversations are pretty important to how stories grow.
And a suggestion: Files might be good to use as easier-to-navigate records than message threads, through message threads are great for conversation. For example, one player could volunteer to write fic for a particular decided-upon RP event, get it approved by the other players, and put it in the Files section.

Also: we will need as many people as possible!

Thanks a lot for doing this, Allison. It's great. :D

Rotgut - July 2, 2008 11:11 AM (GMT)
We've already had the Black Death, bird flu and a plague of mini Rolf Harris impersonators through the UK. I think you're right. If I am allowed to throw OC characters in, they would be my oldest characters:
*Count Delusion
*Poison Ivy
*Rapid Shootout
*Nebulous
*Lancelot
*Molto
*Necromancer

I would also like to maybe play Lord Fear, Googler or Rotgut.

Oh, please, feel free to use any of my OCs. I'd like to see Kellamy in the RPG. To Allison, I think Chuck, Mr. Cheseborough, Duff and Rick should be in the RPG, because it wouldn't really be the same without them. Oh and one more thing...

THANK YOU!!!

allison lightning - July 2, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
No the messages are how you conduct the RPG- throught the message board, recent messages ussually include the last five posted.

But like Sarah ( which one/account is yours?) said oneliners are very confusing, which is why there will be no one liners (We are all writers here)... timezones or not you can manage a paragraph or two like the character speaking, what they are thinking, how they hold themselves...I would say we use files tos tore message threads after they are completed. That way you can read back story without reading individual post and it keps to board as interactive as ever.

Here is an example of how you set a message up, either you reply to a message or post a new one And when we get started all non character discussion will be held here. also down is a way to bring Chuck in, but one excahnge student only no more-

Breakdown of Title of post- i.e. A Day in the Life of an Exchange student, (Name of school)- Chuck Mugel ( Name of Character)

This was we know the where, the when and the topic. Very simple once you get the hang of it. I will post an example of a message thread from anothe rgroup I am apart of.

Okay Rotgut- Chuck may depending... and Rick because it's his English shop that Mark gets the game from. But this is based in England- do you really think Duff could afford to emigrate? We will be sticking to the five basic evils who came out to start with, if these other ones are in the 6D... basically it's up to Sarah all OCs. But Lord Fear, write the biography and send it to me . OC bios go to Sarah.

But I do agree with Sarah best limit the OC's especially until we filla most of the canons.

I love the idea still Sarah,so design the character. Sarah I trust you, take which characters you think you can handle.

-Allison

( And to the thank you- it's been a long time coming huh?)

Sarah Frost - July 2, 2008 01:03 PM (GMT)
I think you do well as a comedic villain, Rotgut--I think Googler, Rotgut, or Anvil would suit you. You're also actually an English schoolkid, like Mark's British classmates. I can see Chuck maybe emigrating (his mother's a lawyer, and while the British/US systems are different, it's not impossible she could work in America), but not Duff or Cheseborough. Sam's the only other one I can figure might be vaguely plausible to turn up in England; her family are probably pretty loaded considering her boarding school, so they might go to the UK for a brief holiday.

"Manage a paragraph or two..." It's probably better to have that rule than not. Sometimes, though, quick-moving conversations are what's needed to get a story across ("He laid down the spanner, his shocked face staring at her equally stunned expression. 'But the ship--'/'Will repair itself! We--'/'Can go to the Spice--'/'And then sell enough so--'/'We can sail home again!'"); but I guess those might be files.

Have posted the possible character bio as one of the messages (that's right, isn't it?). I wouldn't mind having any of the Knights or evils up for grabs.

About Rick as the one selling the game--it's a neat idea, and I would like to see him as he's a great character, but isn't Rick American too? I don't think he has an English accent, and he worked in making the Ace Lightning game, which was probably done in America (major videogame, American-accented hero = more likely US than UK; see this list of videogames). Rick says he slipped in his doctored version of the game to a pile for going somewhere, and I guess he had some way to track where it was headed (Rick's Computer Shack doesn't exist as far as season one is concerned).

allison lightning - July 2, 2008 01:38 PM (GMT)
Makes sense either way- the shop is not going to be there when Mark goes back to check on it, Rick's collegues thought he was insane ( I always found it weird he was able to slip in the distrabution even though he was fired.) And it was never said whether Mark got the game from America or EWngland, actually since they had just moved it's mor ethan likely he did get it from England. (He was up to level six/seven)

I agree Sarah, but you learn pretty quickly it's better to have that rule than an entire thread of short one liners... you could not get away with that in fanfiction- or in the more stringent RPG groups.

Sarah Frost - July 2, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
Yup, Mark would've got the game from England; you don't usually stop and pick out a videogame while you're flying to America to live, going through Customs, and finding the location of your new place. :) And I s'pose there was some truth in all his talk about the 'English version'!

allison lightning - July 3, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
'Laughs' Yes there must have been. It's always a curiousity how he exactly got the game- at least this way we can give a partial explaination... so are you going to be LI?

Rider Jetfire - July 3, 2008 12:37 AM (GMT)
Okay, I would like to be Random, but where exactly do I send the message? (Sorry, I'm not used to this type of RPG)

allison lightning - July 3, 2008 05:50 AM (GMT)
No messages yet. Go into the files section of the yahoo group rpg, and write up Random's biography- if you have the Ace Lightning guide and companion they will help- ask one of us.... the bio is first.

Rider Jetfire - July 3, 2008 10:47 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, would anyone happen to have that bio? :P

allison lightning - July 3, 2008 10:54 AM (GMT)
As I said, go the group site- follow the earlier link an go to the files section, or just follow this Link

Sarah Frost - July 3, 2008 12:51 PM (GMT)
Rotgut probably has Random's, or I can ask Lightning Flash (I have Sparx' and LI's from that guidebook--they're not terribly informative). (Does anyone have Lord Fear's?) The sum total of what we know about Random's past is approximately: his age (thirty-something--Rotgut knows the something); he didn't always have the metal bits--creatorial word says he got them in an accident fighting the evils; and that (obviously) he has power over machines. So you know as much as you need to, Rider. It's great to have you joining in! :D

I wouldn't mind playing Lady Illusion--or any unattened evils; maybe I'll try to fill out a form for Lord Fear, too. Are you playing Rick, Allison?

allison lightning - July 3, 2008 01:57 PM (GMT)
Rick, unless someone wants to play him will not be a major part of any storyline at least not for awhile... but I must admit I would love to play Sparx I am just waiting to see if anyone who has not joined yet, would like to play her first.

He .. let ,me just grab my guidebook from...no the companion ( I got them for christmas a few years ago

QUOTE
AGE: Human part- 35 Earth years, machine parts- 6 Earth years.

Powerwise more in depth is the guide-

QUOTE
Features superhuman strength, can control electricity and machinery

Rotgut - July 3, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
Random is 35 years old, his mechanical parts are 6 years old and according to Mr. Siggelkow, he got them during a battle that cost him his limbs and damaged his programming.

Lord Fear is 352 years old and was once friends with Ace until said superhero gave him his limp and they have been enemies ever since.

From what I've figured out from the very thin backstory: Lord Fear and Ace were friends but the accident caused by Ace made them become enemies. Fear tried to steal the Amulet of Zoar but was imprisoned by Ace. Lady Illusion busted Lord Fear and his minions out and they stole the Amulet. Ace goes to the Sixth Dimension's version of the Carnival of Doom. He rebuilds the Amulet and faces Lord Fear, but the Amulet opens a portal to Earth and the characters all flow through it. Also at some point in the past, Ace fought Googler and sealed him inside White Hot Oblivion and Random went gaga.

I think it would be suitable to come up with minor details just to clear some stuff up for the characters and actually give backstories to those who have none (e.g. Lady Illusion, Anvil, Pigface, Dirty Rat and Sparx).

How many characters can we have?

I am sorry, this is my first ever RPG and I don't have a clue on how anything works.

Rotgut - July 3, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Allison, I sent you an e-mail containing my version of Lord Fear's biography. I may send you ones of Dirty Rat, Anvil, Pigface, Googler and Rotgut just in case I don't get LF.

Sarah Frost - July 5, 2008 12:08 PM (GMT)
I've stuck another version of Lord Fear up on the group. You should post yours, Rotgut! :)

Rotgut - July 6, 2008 08:49 AM (GMT)
I kind of sent my biographies of LF and Anvil to Allison. I thought she was meant to put them on the site??? :P

Rotgut - July 6, 2008 09:27 AM (GMT)
I've put my Lord Fear biography on the site and Anvil's as a bonus prize.

You can view them here:

Lord Fear

Anvil

Rider Jetfire - July 6, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
I think I'll have to bow out of participating in this RPG, since I havn't really seen all the episodes yet :P

Sarah Frost - July 6, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
Well, you've seen quite a few of the episodes, and the AU starts from the beginning of the series. At any rate, you could join when you've seen all/most of the episodes! We could reserve Random or another CGI character you want to play by keeping them in the 6D until you join. (By the way, the stuff Rotgut and I wrote about the Sixth Dimension? Is completely not episode canon.) (Also re:the eps: I haven't heard from the people who have the last few ones in the series yet. :( )

Rider Jetfire - July 6, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
Well I'm still hopeful we'll get a hold of them :D Just gotta keep hoping :D

And I guess I will reserve Random, though I am still a little new to this type of RPGing

Rotgut - July 7, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
Yes, hopefully the last episode can be downloaded and Rider can watch them and then join the RPG. Wait a minute, I just repeated everything that was just said. :P

Sarah Frost - July 15, 2008 01:10 PM (GMT)
Well, I got around to posting a Lady Illusion profile. Still working on that Lord Fear application fic, may get it done by next week. Allison, are you going to play Ace yourself? I could do Sparx to your Ace, maybe, if we don't manage to recruit anyone else wanting that part.

allison lightning - July 15, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
I am not so sure about Ace, although if no one else wants it I would love Sparx...although I think that since I am playing Mark someone else should play Ace...

Rotgut - July 15, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Nice bio on Lady Illusion, Sarah. You may find one of Pigface on there soon.

Exactly how are we going to do this RPG anyway? :help:
