Title: Ace Lightning on Yuletide!
Description: The year-end obscure fandom exchange

Sarah Frost - September 20, 2007 07:23 AM (GMT)
It's a yearly fandom exchange for rare and obscure fandoms; I've just nominated Ace to the list. Do please join me when I sign up; I'd like to be able to write Acefic for someone this year! (Or nominate whatever other obscure fandoms you're interested in; I've also nominated Burn Up Excess.)

Yuletide nomination form, Yuletide FAQ, and Yuletide home page. Check out some of the stories, there's sure to be at least one fandom you like!

Yuletide_admin on LJ is the comm to follow for announcements; I'm going to sign up to it when they open for that. I do urge you to at least check it out; I'd really love to write someone a Chrissy/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/secularWinterHoliday Acefic. (And the mods are very strict, so you'd be sure to get something!)

Sorry for the double post, but I do have substantive material to add: Yuletide signups are now open, and will be only until the 18th--so it's a good idea to sign up soon. :D

The principle is, quite simply, an exchange: you write one fic, and you get one in return, carefully crafted by a secret Santa for a rare fandom that you really wish there was more fic in.

Recognize any fandoms? Ace Lightning, Burn Up Excess, Babysitters Club, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Spiderman, Black Hole High, Isobelle Carmody's books, Dragon Booster, Tintin, Anne of Green Gables, Grease, The Parent Trap, The Princess Bride, Toy Story, Greek and Roman Mythology, Vampire Hunter D, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Incredibles, Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Mary Poppins, Road to El Dorado, Treasure Planet, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Mulan? Here's the total list of fandoms people can request or offer to write; with something like a thousand on there, I'm sure there's something you recognize. ^_^

The FAQ explains it all extremely well (the admin journal also has some great posts), but here's an example:

QUOTE
Hypothetical Fan: Ooh, requests!  An Ace Lightning fic would be absolutely lovely, of course, what with this example being on this forum for that particularly amazing and brilliant show, also A Song of Ice and Fire, and maybe a Babysitters Club fic as well, and I can make four requests but for the purposes of this example I'll stick to those three fandoms.

Fandom: Ace Lightning
Characters: Any
Details: BEST SHOW EVER! :P  What I'd really like would be fic set in the Sixth Dimension, but any fic would be great.

Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire
Characters: Ned Stark and Cersei
Details: Romantic fluff between them please! :D  Or gen involving them trying to kill each other, whatever.  ^_^

Fandom: Babysitters Club
Characters: Kristy and Mary-Anne
Details: Genfic or femslashy cuteness between them would be awesome.  Mentioning Mary-Anne's dad would be super cool as well.

Now, the Hypothetical Offerer:

QUOTE
Hypothetical Offerer: Lessee, I can offer as many fandoms as I want as long as it's at least three, so I'll go with Ace Lightning, Shakespeare's Tempest and Samurai Champloo, and because I'm pretty easygoing I'll just say I can write 'any' characters in each of them, although if I wanted I could limit myself to writing my favourites.

And now I get someone else's requests!  I get to pick which one out of their requests I want to fulfil, and although it might be only one of their requests is in a fandom I've actually heard of, I've only offered for things I'm pretty confident of writing.

Request #1: Wheeeeee, Ace Lightning!  Sixth Dimension fics aren't really my thing, but I can definitely write about the time when Sparx was trapped there in the second season and have her frying a few zombies.  Maybe I can even get into her past a little bit too.  I could write something else not involving the Sixth Dimension at all because the details are optional, but I'm going to try my best to make the recipient happy.

Request #2: What is this strange song and should I have the sheet music?!

Request #3: Ah, Babysitters' Club.  I forgot to offer this, but I could maybe write this fic anyway—but actually I think the Ace fic sounds like more fun for me, so I think I'll give my recipient their #1 request.  Yay, Yuletide!

So that's all there is to it. I'm definitely signing up, and very aware of Ace Lightning being on the list. It would totally ROCK for some Acefic to be read and written this Yule (hinthintwinkwinknodnod…) . So if you want to fic and receive for the holidays—join me. I has a bunny. :bunny: Click!
