Title: Premonitions
Description: Mark's freaky dreams

In the first episode(The game begins), Mark plays part of the game, we see it through Mark's eyes and then at the end of the episode we see it play out almost exactly to the end.

-Then in the twelth episode (Nobody's Hero) Mak has another one, even spookier because it's a dream and it comes true down to the last detail.

Has anyone any theories why Mark has this ability, aand what the writers might have done with it.
My theory is, my fanfic non withstanding is that some humans in the story have special abilities and Mark is just one of them.

In the first ep we see it through Mark's eyes for the reason that he's playing the game and the characters later play it out on reality's stage. :P The possible THEORIES behind that, of course, would be the fact of the characters coming from the game, or however one wishes to explain away the connection between the computer game and the Sixth Dimension.

The twelfth ep is less explicable. The Doyleist reason, obviously, is that the writers thought it'd look cool to have Mark have a premonitory dream without seriously thinking about reusing it; however, the Watsonian interpretations have not been significantly explored by us fanficcers. Maybe the explanation is something along the lines of Mark's later use of the Super Glove of Doom: that his exposure to the CGIs developed in him skills ordinary humans don't have (look at how Simon managed with the SGoD). Or maybe Mark is somehow related to the 6D, or (my fave!) an AU version of Ace gaining some abilities from the worlds merging, and so on.

Yes, we’ve explored this, and it’s most likely the writers just thought it would be neat but who knows what underhand suggestions they had going (should’ve asked Rick Sigglekow that in your letter, Gut ;P) but it’s totally up for exploration. The dream in ep twelve was definitely odd. And Ace did seem to select the first mortal he saw as his sidekick, but could there be something more to it than that?

There is one other thing I noticed –when Mark is playing “the game” at the end of the first series, while the CGI’s continue to battle outside, is it not plausible to say that as he is playing the game, the characters are performing exactly the same actions, and getting defeated at exactly the same time?

Exposure to the CGI’s (and the amulet) resulting in a “post-human development” of some kind is one we picked up on in RP, and I like the 6D = alternate versions of the humans, theory, though I’m not sure why. And Allison has used the relations technique. All interesting potential theories, with little canon evidence to suggest otherwise. The idea of certain humans having supernatural abilities is another interesting one. I recall Allison brought up the idea of superhumans, which can exist both on earth and in the sixth dimension… (I’m surprised we haven’t thought of that one before, to be honest, it’s an interesting idea, though it might defy the point of the humans role in the series, it could still be utilised.)

The dreaming thing is certainly odd and great for fanon exploration.

Interesting idea... I might have to rewatch that ep. If that was what was happening I'd be pretty damned freaked if I was a CGI. Because that would mean the game controls still have some sort of control over them. :ph43r:

I never really thought of Mark's dream of being any big thing; it is possible to dream something and then have it happen similairly the next day, most likely because you subconciously recognise you're in a similar sitution and might start, say, having the same conversation. But now that I think about it, that doesn't quite work for Mark's dream, because we have Fear saying one of the exact same lines as in the dream (then again, Fear may just be predictable :P ) But anyway, I think it was done for the 'ooo! freaky!' thing. I quite liked it because in the dream, Mark was so freaked he woke himself up... only in real life you can't just do that. ;)

You can't? I've woken myself up from dreams.

Gah... bad wording on my part. I meant in Mark's real life he can't just wake himself up from nearly getting blasted by Lord Fear, while he can in his dream. :)

I'm quite good a waking myself up from dreams. :P

I'm useless at waking myself up... mostly because I just don't want to :P Dreams are fun.

You know, I'm going to have to dig out the dream dictionary and see what I can make out of that suppsoed premonition/plot device thing sometime... can't believe I didn't consider that sooner.
