Title: Obsessions
Description: What you are or were obsessed about?

Rotgut - October 25, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
Help me! I've got a new obsession! I watched a Batman cartoon on CBBC today and now I've got an obsession for the Penguin! Ack! Anyway, what were or are you obsessed about?

Scarab Dynasty - October 25, 2005 10:19 PM (GMT)
I saw that... what the HECK did they do to those characters???

Can this obsession be anything? Because Ace Lightning is an obvious one.

I also have an obsession for manga - I must spend a fortune on them, and tend to get series' even if I don't enjoy them. I even purchased Battle Royale: the Manga, despite the afct that I know it's going to creep me out... the art is pretty.

My real qualms in manga, however, are Fushigi Yugi (god stop praising the girl, already, she's not THAT great) and Demon Diary (nice theme and ideas - TERRIBLE execution... also, I’m all up for Bishi style, but it's when I can’t tell if a character is male or female that I start to have continuity problems. Though the short stories that came at the back are quite good.)

ShadowCat - October 26, 2005 07:23 AM (GMT)
I'm obsessed with anything science fiction.

Scarab Dynasty - October 26, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
Who's your fave Star Trek: TNG character Shadowcat? :)

ShadowCat - October 26, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
Well, I haven't watched TNG for ages, but I liked Geordi.

Scarab Dynasty - October 27, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)
Amen :D I thought you might like him (close second to Data in my books.)

Rotgut - October 27, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
I like Data and the brown guy wearing the weird thing.

hyperpsychomaniac - October 27, 2005 11:01 AM (GMT)
The brown guy is Geordi. :P And the weird thing is a cheese grater... no wait, viser... is that spelt right?

FeArdantane - October 27, 2005 01:14 PM (GMT)
Suck geeks.

Anyway, everyone knows that DS9 is better. You;e got the space, and the mystical backstory of the chosen one. :P And Voyeger has a FEMALE captain. Can't beat having a girl in charge!

As for obsessions well, most of mine aren't mentionable on a PG13 board. :P

xx
Feef

Scarab Dynasty - October 28, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)
I think it might be spelt VISAR... but I'm not sure. Hegets implants in one of the movies and later has his optical nerves regenerated on an alien planet where everyone is immortal, remember? That scene alwaysmakes me cry... not as good as this scene though

Boy *watches android vanishing under lake*: Can he breathe under water?
Picard: Data doesn't breathe.
Boy: Oh... Will he rust?

The female captain is good (not that I LIKE her that much) but the chosen one thing of DS9 is SO last century (well, last coupe-of-centuries for them :P)

Ooh

hyperpsychomaniac - October 28, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, DS9 is just so much better. :D *hugs Odo* *Odo turns into goo* Ew...

Rotgut - October 28, 2005 01:10 PM (GMT)
Haha! You fools! It is spelt VISOR!

hyperpsychomaniac - October 28, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
Leave my spelling alone. :P Isn't it an acronymn for something? Visual... something?

Rotgut - October 28, 2005 01:36 PM (GMT)
What is a acronymn?

Scarab Dynasty - October 28, 2005 06:12 PM (GMT)
An acronym is a word which is spelt from the first letters of various other words that describe it:

eg. In Star Trek, a VISOR = "Visual Instrument and Sight Organ Replacement". (As well as supplying Geordi La Forge with the sense of sight, however, the VISOR also caused him constant pain.) In reality, A Visor is also the name for any instrument that is placed over the eyes to protect them in some way: this is probably a deliberate coinscidence.

Oddly enough, it's also the name used for the Violent and Sex Offender Register (ViSOR).

Other examples:

RSPCA: stands for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

IEEE stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

hyperpsychomaniac - October 29, 2005 11:41 AM (GMT)
Ha! Electrical engineers... *shakes head* :P

Scarab Dynasty - October 29, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
*sees Random in junkyard - initial reaction = Ieee!

Okay... bad joking aside, I'm a TNG girl and it ain't gonna change :P

ShadowCat - October 31, 2005 01:44 AM (GMT)
I like DS9 a little better than TNG. I wish I could get the DVDs, but they're so expensive!

hyperpsychomaniac - October 31, 2005 10:15 AM (GMT)
I know! Everyone makes so much noise about Star Trek being so crappy and geeky... and yet, the boxed sets are almost twice as much as most other season box sets...

And I don't think the extra is for the uber cool pod-type cases. :D

FeArdantane - October 31, 2005 11:16 AM (GMT)
Oh, mentioning that, Stargate series 1 to 7 box sets are half price on Amazon. Get them now while they're hot!

hyperpsychomaniac - October 31, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
 I sooo need to get a credit card... *has to wait for Target or Big W to have a sale* <_<

Scarab Dynasty - October 31, 2005 01:07 PM (GMT)
Goota love those pod-special-edition cases :D

allison lightning - June 22, 2006 08:58 AM (GMT)
Come on! I am a Star Trek: Voyager girl. I like Star Trek TNG but Voyager's better. The girls roles in

Star Trek: Next Generation

Leads:

Deanna Troi- Ship Councillor( Doesn't even get a rank until the 7th season)
Beverly Crusher- Head Doctor
Tasha Yar(Killed off in 1st season) Head of security

Star Trek Voyager

Leads:

Kathryn Janeway- Captain of the ship
B'Lanna Torres- Ship's head engineer
Kes- Medical Aide(Left 4th season)
Seven of Nine-Head of Astrometrics
( My favourite character. Poor thing had to wear that outfit all the time but still my favourite)

Instead of expendable ensigns and security detail, the crew is more like a family. Everyone is looked out for (e.g Good Shepard, Season 6 Click Here) better character development and a great stroryline.

ShadowCat - June 22, 2006 09:22 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Voyager was good! It was great to have a female captain. DS9 and TNG are still my favourites, though. I still love Odo and Geordi!
My current obsession is The A-team! I wish I'd found it sooner! It's so funny. And I just found out that one of the best actors in it is also in some of the Star Trek series! I wish I could get the DVDs and see the episodes because that guy was awesome in A-team!
Also, I've found that the A-team fandom is pretty good. The fanfic is great! I don't have to go through heaps of bad fic to get to the good stuff! And everyone's pretty friendly. I think it's because most of the fans are adults.

Scarab Dynasty - June 23, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
I'm a TNG gal, myself. :) Data rocks, Picard rocks even more (and he quotes SHAESPEARE, c'mon, what more could you want? :P) and Beverly was like... cool. Don't ever mess with the doctor, people ;P
