Meta-Gaming is a term used in RPG's to describe a player's actions when they either go against the rules of the board or when they work the outcome out to their character's advantage when it is unrealistic. There are several other ways a member can Meta-Game.

Examples of Meta-Gaming:

Let's pretend I have two characters, Jon and Jane.

QUOTE
Example One:

Jon knows that Heather is lying because he is telepathic and read her thoughts. Jane does not know this because Jon has not told her that she is lying, therefore Jane must observe Heather's actions to decipher whether or not Heather is lying, if Jane even suspects it.

If Jane acts as if she has heard Heather's thoughts, and has not been told what they are by either Jon or Heather, then I would be Meta-Gaming.

QUOTE
Example Two:

I have read another thread where something has happened and wish to join in on the action. My character does not know what is going on and would normally have no reason to go to the location, but I bring him there anyway.

In this case, I would also be Meta-Gaming

Another form of Meta-Gaming is making unrealistic posts. A good way to avoid this is to visualize what is going on. If any characters are left standing there without just cause, you need to look your post over again.

Anyone caught Meta-Gaming will automatically recieve a Warning Level, no questions asked.
