Computers, as well as other technologies, exist. As such, so does email and MSN and so on. However, these are not luxuries as they are in modern society. They are rights to each person. Everyone owns at least a PC, and each character is auotmatically given a domestic email; firstname@dos.com. Any email sent to these addresses are only accessible through the corresponding computer. In other words, you can't use your friend's computer to check your email. If however, you have the money for a lap top or email on your phone, your inbox is automatically programmed into them. This means you will be able to check your email in any of these areas.
Lap tops and phones with internet are also quite common, however they do have a cost. But computers and the basics are in every house.
In a forum, if there is a computer in the room, there is a thread dedicated soley to the computer. When a character is using a computer, they enter the room/thread the computer is located in (outlined in the Topic Description) and then state they are going to the computer. They go to that thread as if it is an actual location and do everything they would on a computer normally. The only exception to this rule are those living in either Dragon Cove or Dragons Lair. It is implied that there is a computer in the main living area of each cave/cove.
When actual communications occur, the account Computer will then be involved. If your character opens MSN, their personal Inbox or sends an email, the Computer will post whether or not the program works, when the email has been sent, etc. Since computers and the internet tend to have a personality all heir own, the character has no control over whether or not a program works.
MSN and Other IM Programs
What your character has is up to you, but only one program will work with another. Example, Yahoo will only work with Yahoo, MSN only works with MSN. If you want to use an IM system, you log into whichever program is on your computer, 'Computer' will let you know you're logged in and will make the appropriate post in the IM forum. (Same with email programs) You must establish a contacts list (You may do this via PM with other members). If you wish to start a discussion with someone else who is online, simply start a thread in the IM Forum with the topic title of the other character you wish to speak to and the message program being used as the Topic Description. You then carry on your conversation in this thread. If you are doing other things on the computer besides IM, this is posted in the Computer thread. Only Instant Messages are posted in the IM thread, just like you're actually using MSN or YIm or whatever. This, and emails, are the onyl two place emoticons are allowed when posting IC. There are no offline messages available, so if someone is offline and you wish to send a message, you will have to send it via email.
