- Mardra was born to Elara Bronté in 1703. No one knows who her father is, not even her Aunt Nola. Mardra's powers surfaced late in her life, not until she was around 50 mortal years. Her mother was worried, but Mardra managed to keep her at bay for those long years. Twenty five years after she came into her powers, she happened upon a stray dragon egg. It was near the Cove, but seemed to have been discarded. She took the egg to a safe cavern that she frequented and nurtured the egg. When she told her mother of her findings, Elara scoffed and told her the dragon would not likely even hatch. And if it did, it wouldn't live long. It was the only reason a Master Dragon would discard an egg. Nevertheless, Mardra looked after the egg with more care than any potential Rider. A few months later, the egg finally hatched. It was a slow process, for the dragon inside was, indeed, weak and smaller than a normal hatchling. But Mardra forced herself not to help it, telling herself that it would help the dragon gain strength. When the tiny creature finally loped over to her, she was extatic. She didn't even care that the dragon wasn't a typical colour. Or that it was slightly smaller than normal. He was hers and she loved him. She named him Landon, and they did everything together. She trained him privately out of the cavern, expecting him to die soon, as her mother had told her he would. But he didn't. He became larger and stronger with ever passing day. Mardra had to keep a constant supply of oils with her because of her dragon's growth. Landon, in turn, aided mardra in her powers. Dragons are very smart, and are hatched this way, and was of great assistance to her.
When Landon turned two years old, she brought him to the Dragon Rider Masters. They were shocked. They had known of Landon existance, but didn't pay it much heed since they, too, had expected the creature not to live. The Masters decided to allow Mardra to remain at the Cove if she so chose. She did. Elara and Nola were upset, naturally, that she would not remain at Dark Haven with them and teach, but they knew they couldn't stop her. She had Elara's stubborness.
For the next few centuries, Mardra studied closely under the two masters. Landon grew stron, and so did her powers. She brought the Masters to Dark Haven, and her mother and aunt to the Cove frequently, thus forming a great alliance between the two. Everything was going swimingly. The Cove was frequently visited by the students of Dark Haven, and Dark Haven made accomodations for their numerous Dragon Rider students. Mardra was beyond delighted. If it hadn't been for her finding the dragon egg, things could have been entirely different.
During these years, Mardra met Dax. A dashing young Dragon Rider Witch who swpet her off her feet. They fell in love almost immediately and married just as quickly. Barely a year after their married, Mardra gave birth to a girl and they named her Tessandra Elara Bronté.
Soon after Tessandra's birth, the prophecised attack by Lavena occured. Tragedy struck when the Cove lost their leaders in the defence against the attack. Mardra was beyond horrified. She lost all cotact with the world for several months afterwards. She didn't take any visitors, and even Dax was turned away several times. It took her nearly a year to come out of her depression. Post pardum combined with the tragedy didn't make it easy on her, but everyone had suffered greatly in the months following the attack.
The Masters' only son headed up the Cove for a while, but found that he couldn't handle the job. Upon consulting what little Riders remained, he appointed Mardra the new Dragon Rider Master. She took this position with humbled pride, and named her husband, Dax, Co-Master. in the few years that followed, however, the ties that bind came unbound. Cove issues were too great a strain on the couple, and their relationship ended in divorce. However, to this day, the two are still great friends and will be forever.
